More than 1 million permits will be expiring this year and 30,000 refugee claimants have already received letters that they may no longer be eligible for asylum. While wait times for permits and applications stall and settlement services face budget cuts, the Canadian government has pledged $617 million in their 5-year border plan, with targets to recruit 1000 more CBSA agents within the next year. In light of the recent passing of Bill C-12 into law, we are seeking volunteers to support with case intake, education, policy adovacy, and quick response teams for the immigration enforcement that will soon mirror our neighbors down south.
Damayan BC invites you to join us for a free case intake training this coming *Friday April 17 at 7 PM*, to give anyone and everyone the practical tools to support with case intake and building community networks for precarious migrants.
RSVP via the link in our bio (tinyurl.com/damayanvolunteer), by text to 672.272.5487 or by email to [email protected] for location and so we can accommodate food :)
If you or your organization would like to join a local quick response team, please fill out the volunteer form as well!
