Wildfire smoke is causing poor air quality across
B.C. this long weekend, with over 150 active fires and more lightning expected. Evacuation orders near Nanaimo have expanded due to the 245-hectare Wesley Ridge fire, affecting nearly 200 properties near Cameron Lake and Little Qualicum River Village.
Campgrounds and day-use areas are closed, and drivers are urged not to stop along Highway 4. A separate fire near Harrison Lake has led to road closures and an evacuation alert, while fires near Lytton and in the Interior are prompting poor air quality andious thompson. With no significant san, Cariboo, expected, officials warn that storm activity could spark even more fires.

On Monday, March 24, 2025, people across Canada will gather to participate in True North Strong:
A Day of Nationwide Solidarity. M
In Vancouver, the event will take place outside the U.S.
Consulate General, where individuals can join together in a peaceful demonstration. This event is part of a larger initiative taking place in cities across the country, with the goal of showing collective support for peace, democracy, and human rights.
The event will run from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, providing an opportunity for Vancouverites to connect with others in a shared space. It’s an open invitation for those who wish to be part of the nationwide movement to attend and show their support.
This event is one of several simultaneous gatherings in cities such as Calgary, Halifax, Montreal, Quebec City, Toronto, Ottawa, and Winnipeg. Each gathering will take place at local U.S. consulates and embassies, with people coming together to make their presence felt.
