Ireland Canada Place is a show of gratitude to people from All 32 Counties of Ireland who have contributed to Canada and the City of Vancouver in their lifetime. It will also remember many Irish interred in Eastern Canada during Ireland’s Great Hunger.

We remain hopeful that design approval will be provided to allow for unveiling in 2027.

Thanks goes to Vancouver Park Board for providing the wonderful site and to all donors who have contributed to the project to date.

Join the Global Irish famine Way of New Jersey as we congratulate Professor Christine Kinealy on her selection as the Grand Marshal of the St. Pat’s for All parade. Professor Kinealy is one of the co-convenors for the Global Irish famine Way in the USA is a historian and expert on the Irish Famine. She is Professor of History and founding Director of Ireland’s Great Hunger Institute at Quinnipiac University. A graduate of Trinity College Dublin, she has written extensively about the Great Hunger, including the award-winning book This Great Calamity. Her work helps preserve and share the history of the Famine and its lasting impact on Ireland and the Irish diaspora.

So they are never forgotten !

While the court case to return the Irish Commemorative Stone to its rightful place as the headstone of the thousands who perished on the shores of the St. Lawrence in 1847 raged on, custodians of the "Stone" and Cemetery continued their attempts to stop the desecration of the site by the GTR by trying to erect a Cross to show that the land was indeed a Cemetery. With the "Stone" gone the site could easily be mistaken for empty fields!

A meeting of delegates from the various Irish Societies will be held in St. Patrick’s Hall on Friday evening June 11/09, to discuss ways and means regarding the following:

Circulation of a petition to the Anglican Bishop of Montreal for permission to erect a cross on the site of the late emigrants monument at Point St. Charles, or to replace the original stone, thus saving from further desecration the spot made sacred by the burial of so many of our race.

Trusting that your Society will be represented at this meeting by two delegates.

Parks Canada - Caretakers of Grosse Ile Quebec where 5424 Irish died during 1845-48 !
Parks Canada are also Care Takers along with local First Nations, Government of BC with Fisheries and Oceans Canada taking care of the land and water for all of us !
