We take precedence in giving space, championing voices and creating visibility for BIPOC communities through free dance classes. We help them build confidence, purpose, trust in themselves to become leaders for their communities and develop a sense of unity by exploring the art of dance and the wisdom it brings. We focus on teaching and passing down Streetdance Foundations(through free classes) as
our respects to the Black and Latinx innovators of the styles and the communities that inspired the Streetdance movement. Barangay Project is a non-profit organization created by a Filipina artist, Sophia Sosa, who is inspired to create change within the dance culture by offering free dance classes to spark joy and create a free safe space for BIPOC where there is room for education and fun. One of our long-term goals is to build an academy/school of dance in Manila, Philippines where it will also stand as a shelter for street kids to find home and refuge for free(where they are nurtured to have drive, dream and ambition). Students of Barangay Project do not only learn dance but they are also taught to reflect on themselves and assess their own learning through group discussions between student and teacher that is integral to our dance programs. Barangay Project is a space that highly prioritizes BIPOC communities of all ages everywhere in the globe. We take precedence in giving space, championing voices and creating visibility for all marginalized communities, especially the youth through dance and other artistic exploration.
