Student debt is often a bigger problem than most university students in Vancouver anticipate. Rising tuition fees and expenses of going to university have become increasingly huge burdens to bear for studentsβ€”many of whom are already dealing with pressures from the cost of living on their own for the first time.

The good news is that the Emily Cares Student Emergency Fund is available to help shoulder the financial burden. You can make a one-time gift or join our Monthly Giving Program here: https://loom.ly/y9XCZoM

Please join us for Giving Tuesday to support the Aboriginal Gathering Place Teaching + Learning Initiative.

The Aboriginal Gathering Place (AGP) has thrived within Emily Carr University for 24 years, growing in both scope and influence.

Support for the AGP directly contributes to this important learning and enhances our Indigenous student experience. As a place for coming together, the AGP goes beyond its programming to function as a home away from home. Students are welcomed with warmth and acceptance, support for food security, financial aid and mentorship.

β€œAs a student, first as an undergrad, then again through my graduate program, the Aboriginal Gathering Place was more than just a place. It was community, it was a space to be listened to, to learn and share, create and find opportunity. The AGP held an energy. It brought me together with amazing artists, designers and communities in ways that ripple beyond the walls of ECU, and that nourished an integral energy of connection.”

Gifts to ECU support the next generation of creative thinkers. They help provide financial support to students through bursaries, scholarships, fund programming and outreach on campus and beyond, provide investments in faculty and research, maintain, and improve facilities! So, donor impact here at ECU is undeniable!

There are options to designate a gift to a specific need or simply selecting the β€œarea of greatest need,” which gives the university maximum flexibility to apply your gift, where you can choose to make a one-time donation or set up an automated monthly gift, via our link in bio. Or get in touch with us, today!

Come join us today for a 2-part performance, 'Broad: Say Less' and 'Documents' by Autumn Knight, the Audain Distinguished Artist in Residence at ECU!

When: Today! Friday Nov 22nd 7:00pm – 9:00pm!
Where: Libby Leshgold Gallery (520 E 1st Ave, Vancouver, BC, V5T 0H2)

Part 1: 𝑩𝒓𝒐𝒂𝒅: π‘Ίπ’‚π’š 𝑳𝒆𝒔𝒔
𝑩𝒓𝒐𝒂𝒅: π‘Ίπ’‚π’š 𝑳𝒆𝒔𝒔 is an improvisational duo by sound and performance artists Lisa E. Harris and Autumn Knight. In this experimental sound performance, Knight and Harris minimize the use of words as language and maximize the ability of explorative sound to connect with each other and the audience.

Part 2: π‘«π’π’„π’–π’Žπ’†π’π’•π’”
Troubling the division of labour between the performer and the audience, π‘«π’π’„π’–π’Žπ’†π’π’•π’” involves a public reading of the documentation that serves to authenticate or legitimize one’s right to exist. Central to this work is a filing cabinet that both holds the props required for the performance, while also serving as a portrait or trace of the artist. The interactive reading of the documents in the files addresses the embodied specificities of race, class, gender, and sexuality to contest whether these categories accurately reflect the bodies they are meant to representβ€”while underlining how different audiences and relationships to power may influence this reading.
