David Roberts, Digger La Rue and eight other progressive East Van yachtsmen met aboard their new yacht "December Dreams ",during the afternoon of Tuesday, July 30, 2002. DD was anchored off Portside Park at the foot of Main Street. They proposed forming a club among East Van businessmen and residents, which could serve as an organization for weekend East Van Harbor racing, summer cruises in the co

oler English Bay waters and generally just Giviner. Melanie terBorg was the first woman to join the RNYYC; the year was 2005, and it was not all smooth sailing. Much debate was heard in the board room and echoed in the East End Times that wrote, "...Legal lore scintillated across the room. Eloquence leaped skyward in volumes. Seen and unseen reefs were talked of, and the reverse of smooth water, fair tides, winds abaft the beam and sunshine for the old club were thought to be as Neptune lives, if the constitution was so construed." The nays had it at first, but within a couple of minutes the tide turned with an amendment. Melanie terBorg was elected with her new steam yacht, "Seaduced", usually moored at Dusty Greenwell Park, East Van's northern most point, not too big and predominately peopled by Carnies. She had often entertained REVYC members there, which no doubt helped her application.
