"Now I know how to invest, and I make decisions with calculations," says Beatrice, a graduate of Kinvest Business Leader Development Program.

Before joining the Business Leader Development training, Beatrice had no financial management skills. She did not know the importance of saving, setting financial goals, or making informed investment decisions. Although some of her neighbors encouraged her to join savings groups, she did not understand how working together could improve her family's future.

Through the Business Leader Development Program, Beatrice gained practical skills in financial literacy, entrepreneurship, goal setting, and leadership. As a member of an ABCD Group, she learned to save consistently, plan, and make informed financial decisions with confidence.

Inspired by the program, Beatrice set a goal of starting a poultry business and successfully turned that vision into reality. Today, she earns additional income, provides more effectively for her family, maintains health insurance, and plans with confidence.

Beatrice's journey reflects how practical skills, a growth mindset, and community support can help families build sustainable livelihoods and create lasting change.

Did you know?

In Nyagatare, 54.5% of households had access to electricity, compared with Rwanda’s national average of 61%, according to the 2022 Rwanda Population and Housing Census.

While household electricity access remains a challenge, access to reliable energy also matters for local businesses. Through our solar-powered market hubs, Kinvest Impact Foundation is helping extend access to clean, reliable energy in rural trading spaces.

The hubs provide entrepreneurs with lighting that allows them to operate beyond daylight hours, while creating safer and more functional spaces to run their businesses.

By bringing solar energy directly to community through market hubs, we are contributing to greater access to reliable energy for rural entrepreneurs and creating better conditions for businesses to operate and grow.

From Spending for Today to Investing for Tomorrow

“Guests should not make you eat your future.” Christina. Before joining the Business Leadership Development Program, Christina struggled to manage her household finances. Hosting visitors often meant spending beyond what she could afford, leaving little for her family’s needs. She had income, but no clear way of tracking where it went or planning how to use it.

Her perspective began to change after seeing neighbors improve their livelihoods through livestock and other income-generating activities. Curious about how they were making progress, Christina learned that one of her neighbors was participating in Kinvest’s training. She decided she wanted the same opportunity.

The training helped her rethink how she used the resources she already had. Through lessons on financial literacy, expense tracking, goal setting, resource management, and risk management, Christina began making more deliberate decisions about spending and investing.

She put those lessons into practice. She started a poultry business and opened banana trading in her village, creating additional sources of income for her family. More importantly, she began to see herself as a businesswoman capable of planning for the future.

After graduating, Christina joined a savings group where members pooled their savings to invest in buying and storing maize and beans when prices were low, then selling them when demand increased. What began as a change in how one woman managed her money grew into a collective investment that created opportunities for members while responding to a challenge in the local market.

Today, Christina is able to pay for her family’s health insurance, manage her businesses with greater confidence, and share what she has learned with others. “The training changed the way I think. It taught me that improving my future begins with managing what I already have.”

Christina’s story shows that sometimes, meaningful change does not begin with having more it begins with learning to make better use of what is already available.

Happy Umuganura Day!

Today, we join Rwandans across the country in celebrating Umuganura Day, a cherished tradition that reminds us of the value of hard work, gratitude, and sharing the fruits of our labor with our families and communities.

Umuganura is more than a harvest festival. It is a celebration of resilience, unity, and the belief that true prosperity grows when communities work together, and everyone can thrive.

At Kinvest Impact Foundation, these values inspire our work every day. We are unlocking people's potential, so they can build sustainable livelihoods and create lasting prosperity for future generations. As we celebrate this year's harvest, let us also celebrate the farmers, entrepreneurs, and communities whose dedication continues to nourish Rwanda's growth.

Happy Umuganura Day! May this season bring abundant harvests, stronger communities, and renewed hope for all.

Last week marked the beginning of a new journey for 40 aspiring entrepreneurs in eastern Rwanda , Bugesera-Gashora, as Kinvest Impact Foundation officially launched Cohort 2, Level 1 of the Business Leadership Development training.

Delivered in partnership with GIZ and Machinery Ring, this seven-week program is designed to equip participants with the knowledge, practical skills, and confidence needed to build stronger businesses and brighter futures.

Did you know?

Nyagatare has the lowest access to nearby clean water among all districts in Rwanda. According to the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda, only 23% of households are within a 15-minute walk of an improved water source.

Behind this statistic are families who spend valuable time walking for water time that could otherwise be invested in education, farming, and running a business.

At Kinvest Impact Foundation, we believe that access to clean water is more than a basic need. It is a pathway to healthier families, stronger livelihoods, and thriving communities. Now we have 8 water points, and every water point we build is a step toward creating lasting opportunities for the people of Nyagatare.

“Now I Can Save My Fuel and My Time” Songa Ndereyimana.

For years, accessing clean water was one of the biggest challenges in Akayange, According to Songa. Every day, Songa relied on his motorcycle to transport water from distant places, spending both time and money to meet his household's basic needs.

"One of the biggest challenges I was facing was getting access to clean water," Songa recalls. "I used to spend at least one hour on my motorcycle looking for water." The journey was often difficult, and the water itself was not safe sometimes depending on where I got it. Like many families in the community, Songa worried about the health risks associated with unsafe water. Finding alternative sources was possible, but they were often too expensive and located far from home.

"When we saw Kinvest rehabitating the water point in Akayange, we gained hope that things were going to change," he says. Today, the water point is helping families access safe water closer to home. "The time I used to spend looking for water is now invested in supervising construction work at my home," he says. "I can also as much jerrycans at once to make sure my family has enough water."

For Songa, the new water point is more than an infrastructure project. It is a solution that helps families save time, reduce expenses, and access safer water close to home.

What if one simple habit could transform a family's future?

Six years ago, Kinvest Impact Foundation launched the Business Leader Development Program in Nyagatare with a vision of helping families build stronger and more sustainable livelihoods.

Through the program, participants develop essential skills in saving, financial management, entrepreneurship, and leadership. Through ABCD groups, they learn the value of collaboration, accountability, and supporting one another on their journey toward growth.

By helping families define their dreams, set clear goals, make wise financial decisions, and turn their plans into action, we have seen remarkable transformation.

Today, families are starting and expanding businesses, building financial resilience, creating opportunities for others, and contributing to the long-term development of their communities.

Meet Francoise Nyirimpuhwe, a mother whose daily life has been transformed by access to clean water.

Before the borehole was rehabilitated, Francoise and her family spent hours each day walking to collect water that was often scarce. The time spent fetching water sometimes kept her children away from school and made it difficult to keep up with daily responsibilities.

Today, clean and affordable water is just three minutes from her home. Her children have more time to focus on their education, and the family can dedicate more time to work and other daily activities. "Having clean water close to home has made life much easier for my family. We now have more time for school, work, and caring for our home," says Francoise.

This is the impact of reliable access to clean water healthier families, more time for education and livelihoods, and stronger communities with greater opportunities to thrive.

Today, we celebrate the creativity, determination, and potential of young people who are transforming their skills into opportunities.

At Kinvest Impact Foundation, we believe that skills are the foundation for sustainable livelihoods and stronger communities.

Through our Business Leader Development Program, we equip local entrepreneurs with practical business skills to start, manage, and grow successful businesses. Graduates go on to form peer networks, savings groups, and cooperatives that strengthen their businesses, create jobs, and build economic resilience within their communities.

Every entrepreneur who gains the confidence to grow a business, support a family, or mentor others is proof that investing in skills creates lasting impact.

On this World Youth Skills Day, we celebrate all young people who are learning, innovating, and using their skills to build brighter futures for themselves and their communities.

Happy World Youth Skills Day!
