We received the sad news that VCS’ beloved principal from 1970–1984, Mr. Frank DeVries, was recently called home to be with the Lord.

Mr. DeVries will be remembered with great fondness: for his warm and generous smile, his love for students, and his deep conviction about what Christian education could and should be.

During his 14 years as principal, he helped shape VCS from a small school largely connected to one church denomination into the interdenominational Christian community we know today. He delighted in seeing children who had worshipped in many different churches on Sunday come together as one school community on Monday - a reflection of his desire for VCS to be, above all, a Christian school.

He believed deeply in the joy of learning and in discipling students. He championed music and art (he was an extremely talented musician-composer himself!), established Kindergarten at VCS, and even introduced VCS students to the school’s first computers. Generations of students will fondly remember the songs he composed, including “Summertime” and “Tiny Little Spider”- two examples that our students still belt out with gusto today!

Mr. DeVries once described how he sees the VCS story in Jesus’ parable of the mustard seed: something that began with tiny beginnings and, by God’s grace, grew into a tree where many could find a home. We are so grateful for the seeds he faithfully planted and for a legacy that continues to bear fruit at VCS today.

We grieve his passing and hold his family and loved ones in our prayers. Yet we grieve with the certain hope we have in Christ.

As he would say: Soli Deo Gloria.

Congratulations, Class of 2026! 🎓

As you step into this next chapter, go forth as Christ’s agents of renewal and joyful hope to the world.

It has been such a privilege to witness how God has shaped each of you during your time at VCS. You will always be a cherished part of our story, and we can’t wait to see how He will continue to lead you in the years ahead!

Ending another incredible school year with praise was fitting, and that’s exactly what we did. There was a palpable sense of joy as we sang, prayed, and received encouragement before heading into the summer months.

We leave not only grateful for all that God has done this year, but expectant for how He will continue His work in and through our students and families.

VCS, may you go out with joy and be led forth with peace. We’re praying for a restorative summer and look forward to seeing what the Lord has in store for the year ahead.

Today was the second-last day our Grade 7 students spent as elementary students, and we sent them off the best way we know how: with a staff vs. Grade 7 dodgeball showdown.

At VCS, this tradition is taken very seriously. How seriously? Serious enough that our staff arrived in custom-made team jerseys, ready to defend their reputation.

With Grade 6 students cheering loudly from the sidelines, it was an afternoon full of big plays, loud cheers, and more than a few dramatic dodges.

We may be saying goodbye to them as elementary students, but we can’t wait to welcome them back as the newest members of our high school community.

Grade 7s, you’ve helped shape the life of our elementary school, and we’re excited to see how God continues to grow and lead you in the chapter ahead.

To close the school year, our high school students shared a year of holistic growth through an interactive exhibition featuring a student-led Jukebox Musical, Film & Television screenings, art displays, culinary creations, and many other presentations and exhibits.

Rather than demonstrating their learning through traditional exams alone, students were invited to communicate, create, collaborate, and think critically in authentic ways. The result was an inspiring celebration of the gifts, skills, character, and confidence that have been cultivated throughout the year.

We couldn’t be prouder of our students - or more grateful for the staff who walked alongside them each step of the way.

We had a full house for our final musical concert! 🎶 The intermediate choir and bands delivered an engaging program that highlighted a year of exponential growth and learning, and we couldn’t be more proud of them!

Congratulations to all students for their outstanding performances, and a special thank you to Mr. Kwong for inspiring and leading this memorable evening!

“Safe?... Course he isn’t safe. But he’s good. He’s the King, I tell you.”

The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe came to life on stage through a beautiful and realistic portrayal by elementary student actors, reflecting months of creative work behind the scenes. This production was a tangible expression of the story that confronts us with our need for a Saviour and the reminder that we are made for more than this life alone! It was also a testament to remarkable teamwork. Parents, cast and crew, staff, alumni, and high school students brought their unique giftings in service of this theatrical vision, and we celebrate each person who helped bring it to fruition!

Transformative Joy was the theme of this year’s High School Spring Concert, and what a beautiful evening it was! Featuring stellar individual and collaborative performances by our bands, choirs, and strings students, the audience was brought on a musical journey filled with delight and more than a few surprises!

Among the evening’s highlights was a choral-orchestral arrangement of Ponyo by Hamada Masashi featuring guest appearances from elementary students. Also making a surprise appearance: Darth Vader himself. Let’s just say the Force was not with him that night.

Of course, what the audience saw was only the tip of the iceberg. Behind every performance were hours of rehearsals, perseverance, and so much growth. We’re proud of our students and all they accomplished!

A special thank you to Mr. Tong for his vision and leadership, Mr. Woo for his invaluable support and performance with the strings quintet, and Mr. Choi for keeping the AV running smoothly. Concerts take a village - and sometimes a Sith Lord.
