When we think of Terry Fox’s story, we think of sacrifice, courage, perseverance, and enduring hope.

So we ran today for every friend, relative, neighbour, and person affected by cancer - because each person matters, and we stand with them.

“Valued.” “Welcome.” “Accepted.” “Important.” “Invited.” “Proud of their own language.”

These are some of the words and phrases our Grade 1 students used to describe how every child should feel, simply because each one is an image-bearer of their Creator God.

This National Day for Truth & Reconciliation, we look to Christ, our ultimate Reconciler. May we follow His lead with humility and courage as we listen, seek truth, honour the dignity of others, and faithfully pursue true reconciliation.

“Hey, do you need help with this puzzle?”
“Wow! That’s so cool! Did you know that octopuses…”
“Shall we share the bucket?” “Yes!”

Our littlest learners are growing in curiosity, kindness, and care for one another every day. It’s only day 15 of kindergarten, and already there is much fruit to celebrate!

We take fun seriously around here!

But in all the fun, something important is happening too: friendships deepen, and new connections are made. Our hope is that every student knows they have a place at VCS - that they are known, seen, and valued.

Encounter Days 2026 may be over, but it’s certainly one to remember.

I can be courageous because…
Jesus comes near when I feel alone.
Jesus is with me even when I fail.
Jesus meets me with grace when I tell the truth.
Jesus is Lord even when life feels out of control.

What an incredible time it has been these Encounter Days to be encouraged by gospel truths, and to spend time worshipping & praying in community as we start the school year together!

Christ is at the centre of all we teach and do, and it’s essential we establish that from the get go!

Join us to pray for our high school students, staff & parent volunteers as they set aside time together to encounter God, His creation, and build authentic relationships with one another at this year’s Encounter Days retreat.

A question asked. A new idea taking shape. A conversation between friends. A moment of focus. A challenge overcome.

All seemingly ordinary moments. But none insignificant as God uses them to grow each child and prepare them for journey to come.

Beginning the school year in community has been a special tradition, and this year was no exception! A warm welcome back to all VCS families, old & new - we’re so glad you’re part of our God-given story.

A shoutout to our Community Engagement Team for organizing this fantastic K-12 Back-to-school Picnic, and for the high school students who served our community so well & willingly!

There’s something special about gathering around a table together!

It was awesome to see High School students enjoying an extended time of fellowship this Community Life Day with new friends & old ones over warm bowls of homemade soup & fresh bread.

Thank you to all parents who lovingly prepared this scrumptious meal! What a gift it is to be cared for in this way.
