Solidarity is not symbolic — it’s lived, worn, and practiced.
Today, our Executive Director stands in a Black Shirt Day shirt and a keffiyeh, honoring the ongoing work of anti-racism, Indigenous justice, and liberation. These struggles are interconnected, and our commitment to justice must be too.
We stand against colonialism, racism, and all forms of oppression — today and every day.

Happy National Indigenous Peoples Day! ✨

Today we celebrate Indigenous Peoples across Turtle Island. From song and dance, to shared meals and community connection...Indigenous joy is powerful. Culture is alive. Relationships and community are everything.

For some of us, today was also a moment of quiet reflection...on the journey, the people and communities whose care shape(d) it, and why we continue to show up, uplift, and amplify.

While a day of celebration, it's also a call to responsibility. Honouring this day means continued truth-seeking and engaging in the on-going work:

Reflection ⁉️

1. Who are we in relationship with (Land, Others, Self)? How are we showing up in those relationships with care, respect, and accountability (even when it's uncomfortable)?

2. Are we actively supporting Indigenous-led initiatives and economies (mutual aid, advocacy, learning) and by where we choose to spend, share, and re-distribute resources ($, time, energy)?

3. How are we investing in education (including our own) to ensure future generations, especially Indigenous youth, grow up with truth, respect, and connection to land and Indigenous knowledge, language, culture and ways of being?

4. How are we honouring Indigenous leadership? How do our daily practices reflect a commitment to decolonization and Indigenous sovereignty?

5. How are we actively working to dismantle colonial structures in our workplaces, communities, and institutions...not just in words, but in action?

6. What are we willing to let go of, shift, or challenge in order to move toward equity, justice, and collective liberation?

Juneteenth is about honouring Black resistance, survival and celebrating Black joy, culture, and community.

Juneteenth reminds us: freedom was delayed and justice is still a struggle.

Freedom didn't come all at once and it's still not complete. From mass incarceration to education and economic inequality, the fight continues.

We are asking ourselves:

🌿 What does freedom mean today?
🌿 How are we building it together?

Emancipation means "being freed from slavery" but true freedom goes beyond law. It's about unity and the power to live fully and freely.

Today we celebrate the 100th birthday of
Malcolm X — a revolutionary leader whose voice reshaped the fight for Black freedom, justice, and dignity.

He spoke truth to power, challenged America to confront its racism, and demanded respect, not just equality, for Black people.

Through his unwavering commitment to self-determination, pride, and resistance, Malcolm X empowered generations to stand tall in the face of oppression.

His legacy is a powerful reminder that liberation begins with knowledge of self and the courage to speak truth, no matter the cost.

We honor him today and always.

We are heartbroken and deeply saddened by the tragic events that took place at the Lapu Lapu Festival here in Vancouver.

Many of us hold different connections to the community and neighbourhood. And like so many others across the city and beyond, we are still processing and checking in on one another. The truth is, we are still finding the words ourselves.

Our hearts are with the Filipino community, with those who were there, and with everyone carrying grief in the wake of this tragedy. We honour the lives lost and hold close all who love them.

We also recognize that the impacts of violence ripple far beyond the immediate moment and that the need for care and community will continue in the days and weeks to come.

Where do we go from here?

In moments of grief, this question calls us back to care, to connection, and to the on-going work of showing up for one another. Leaning on each other, reaching out for support, and creating spaces for collective healing are more important than ever.

We remain committed to listening, to showing up, and stand with you in love, grief, and solidarity.

Happy Monday! 🖤✊✨

As wraps up, we are reminded of the power of education, community and conversation. We reflect and look ahead to Black History and Black Futures Month, a time to honour the past, recognize the present, and imagine and work towards a future shaped by equity and justice.

But what does long-term commitment to anti-racism truly mean? How do we ensure that these conversations and actions are not just moments, but part of a sustained journey?

We are exploring these four areas to deepen our understanding and commitment. Join us as we reflect and think critically about:

💚 Staying informed and educated
❤️ Decolonizing and sustainable action
🖤 Accountability and systems change
💛 Centering and amplifying BIPOC voices

What does long-term commitment look like to you?

Thank you for all your engagement and continued support! 🖤✊✨

🖤 How does systemic racism intersect with other forms of oppression, such as sexism, ableism, or classism?

🖤 What barriers do marginalized groups face in accessing education, healthcare, housing, or employment, and how can these be removed?

🖤 How can I hold local leaders, businesses, and institutions accountable for racial equity?
