B.C. teen’s killer says new TV show about Reena Virk’s murder ‘disrespectful’

Reena Virk‘s killer told parole officials that a television series about the Victoria, B.C., teen’s murder is “disrespectful” and will “re-victimize” Virk’s family.

Documents released by the Parole Board of Canada Wednesday say Virk’s killer Kelly Ellard — who changed her name to Kerry Sim — demonstrated “remorse and victim empathy” after discussing the TV show about the high-profile 1997 murder with her case managers.

Greater Victoria school board resists calls to reinstate police officers in schools

Despite calls from some community members and local governments, the Greater Victoria School District (SD61) school board says it is not reinstating the School Police Liaison Officer (SPLO) program.

The school board ended the SPLO program in May 2023, saying the decision was based on “the evolving needs of students” as well as to protect students’ rights.

The board added that there were concerns about the ambiguity of the role SPLO officers played in schools, as well as a lack of oversight for officers.

Man convicted of first-degree murder related to Langford shooting in 2020

A Greater Victoria man has been convicted of the planned and deliberate murder of Alex Knatchbell in January 2020.

In a very thorough decision, a judge found that Damien Medwedrich was the one who’d helped lure Knatchbell to a secluded area along Humpback Road, and executed a “calculated plan” to kill Knatchbell on Jan. 20, 2020. Medwedrich plead not guilty to a judge-alone trial.

“He said granny, ‘I love you to the sky and back,’ and that’s the last thing he ever said,” Knatchbell’s grandmother told CHEK News through tears Friday, saying she was the last person he ever spoke to.

From Flutter_X On Reddit

Saturday morning Victoria

So out walking along wharf street and see this on the ledge with man passed out on the ground. Called police and police said it wasn't a concern as knife is replica so not to worry about it. Any kids walking buy could grab the used pipes or knife and cause harm or another homeless person. Pretty wild police just leave this for the man to wake up to and continue on his business. Because fake or not he's not using it for anything dangerous smh.
