There’s something quiet and powerful about a child feeling safe enough to just be a kid.

That’s what this is all about. That’s what your support built.

How wonderful to have members of the the Sackville Kinsmen Club help out with our Community BBQ on Friday to thank the neighbours who have seen us through our construction over the past year+.

Truly appreciate all the patience and understanding during the construction of our two new homes.

Today, we opened the doors to brighter futures.

This morning, surrounded by the community that made it possible, we cut the ribbon on Phase 1 of Brighter Futures: two beautiful, purpose-built homes that will welcome children this summer.
Behind every door, a bedroom waiting for a child who needs one. A kitchen where meals will be shared. Sensory rooms and quiet spaces designed with children's healing in mind. For children ages 6-12 who can't safely live at home, these homes are a lifeline and a bridge - to safety, to confidence, and to a loving future.

Thank you to our speakers, who marked this moment with us:
• Steve Craig, former Halifax Regional Municipality Councillor, our emcee, Chisholm Foundation board member, and Chair of the Brighter Futures Capital Campaign
• Braedon ClarkMP for Sackville - Bedford - Preston
• The Honourable Minister Susan Corkum-Greek , Minister of Opportunities and Social Development
• MLA Paul Wozney- MLA Sackville-Cobequid- MLA Sackville-Cobequid
• Councillor Billy Gillis - HRM Councillor District 15 - Lower Sackville/Beaver Bank
• Cory Bell, President & CEO of Lindsay Construction
• Kelly Currie, Chisholm Services Board Chair
• Wade Johnston, our Executive Director

And to everyone who made today real: our government partners at all three levels, whose nearly $6 million in combined funding brought these homes to life; Lindsay Construction and every tradesperson who built them with care; IKEAHalifax Business design Team; the donors and partners who believed in our vision from day one; and our Child & Youth Care Workers and team, who show up for children through their hardest moments, every single day.

A special thank you to three people whose leadership carried this project home: our Executive Director, Wade Johnston, whose dedication has gone far above and beyond at every step, Amanda Hatt, Chair of the Chisholm Foundation for Children Board, and Kelly Currie, Chair of Chisholm Services for Children Board, whose steady guidance helped make this vision a reality.

Phase 1 is complete. Phase 2, the Chisholm Hub, is next. Stay with us - because all children deserve brighter futures.

The IKEA Halifax team showed up in a big way to help assemble furniture and prepare our homes to welcome children in the coming weeks. So inspiring to see the IKEA team helping to ensure the space will be functional and child friendly. Thank you for all your support with this ’passion project’! So gratefully appreciated!

Wonderful day of reflecting on Chisholm’s accomplishments over the past year, looking ahead with adopting a five-year strategic plan, and recognizing those who help us do what we do best. Ambassadors 4Children- IKEA Halifax; Volunteer Recognition - Miguel Hatcher and 25 years of service for Sean Clarke, Manager of Clinical Services. We also recognized Youth Care Worker Rachael Eisenhauer with the Sister Mary Ellen Boyce Legacy Award, and Woozles with the Community Heart Award. So blessed to have the community wrap around our services and the children we care for!

June 21, 2026 is the 30th anniversary of National Indigenous Peoples Day. It's a time to recognize and celebrate the traditions, cultures and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis. We at Chisholm reflect on the importance that summer solstice holds for many Indigenous Peoples, marking a time of renewal, connection, and celebration.

Learning to read changes everything.

Since 2013, Chisholm's LINKS Literacy Program has supported more than 2,300 children across Nova Scotia - many at no cost to families.

"LINKS has helped my son become more excited about reading. He's proud of himself." — Parent/Caregiver

This is the kind of difference your support makes possible.

Every child who comes through our doors carries a story. And every story deserves a chance at a brighter future.

This is why we do what we do. And why the Brighter Futures campaign matters so much.
