Ottawa Sport Council www.sportottawa.ca We are a non-profit group dedicated to supporting and representing amateur sport in Ottawa.

We support and encourage all sports, in order to create a diverse and multifaceted sporting community. Through our work, we strive to encourage participation in sport by community members of all ages, genders, ethnicities, cultures, income-levels and abilities. As an advocate of sport, we strive to assist, support and influence the growth of sport in Ottawa by:

Advocating the values and benefits of sport
Increasing the profile of amateur sport
Facilitating education and training opportunities for athletes, coaches, officials, administrators, parents and volunteers
Acting as a resource for amateur sport organizations
We strive to encourage and facilitate sport tourism in Ottawa, through partnering with Events Ottawa on bidding for and hosting provincial, national and international sporting events. In conjunction with the City of Ottawa Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department, we are working toward the development of a Municipal Sport Strategy to address and support the growth of amateur sport in Ottawa.

At the Ottawa Sport Council, we know the power of being active outdoors and connecting through community.

That's why we're excited to share Everyone Outdoors Together, a national initiative from the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association inviting Canadians to step outside at golden hour on July 18 and take part in a shared moment of connection.

Whether you're going for a walk, cycling with friends, enjoying a local park, gathering with family, or simply taking time to watch the sunset, everyone is encouraged to participate in a way that feels meaningful to them.

No registration required. Just step outside and be part of a coast-to-coast moment celebrating community, nature, and connection.

Happy Pride Month!

The Ottawa Sport Council believes there should only be positive experiences in sport and that sport should safe and inclusive for everyone regardless of their gender or sexuality.

There are many outstanding 2SLGBTQI+ sports groups operating in the capital, we've highlighted many of them on this poster.

And sports organizations can consult the OSC's Belonging Playbook for info on how to make community sport more inclusive and accessible to all at:

The Ottawa Sport Council is proud to introduce our latest Community Sport Heroes – the Community Sport Hosts for ‘Sports 200: Two Days. Everyone Plays.’! 🎉

The OSC was once again reminded of the tremendous spirit and dedication of our local sports organizations, which welcomed 1,200+ registered participants for free sports events across the city on June 6-7.

Organized by the OSC in partnership with City of Ottawa Recreation, Cultural and Facilities Services, the weekend served as a celebration of our city's 200th birthday alongside National Health and Fitness Day and the ParticipACTION Community Challenge.

“At the heart of a citywide try-it sport event is really the Community Sport Hosts,” underlines Ottawa Sport Council Executive Director Frances Mercer. “All the administrators, the coaches and the volunteers, it was their time, their dedication and their commitment that made the event so special."

Today is the 30th anniversary of National Indigenous Peoples Day! It's a time to recognize and celebrate the traditions, cultures and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis.

Indigenous Peoples have shaped sport in Canada and in Ottawa, which is built on un-ceded Anishinabe Algonquin territory.

Our national summer sport of lacrosse carries Indigenous roots and was central to the early days of our city's sports history . Recently inducted into the Ottawa Sport Hall of Fame was the 1906 Capital Lacrosse Club, which won the Minto Cup over the Toronto Tecumsehs in front of 5,000+ spectators at Lansdowne Park.

And there's a great chance coming up on June 29 at noon in the National Arts Centre's Canal Lobby to celebrate First Nations culture through dance, songs, food and crafts with a free Pow Wow Workout led by Amanda Fox. The 45-minute high-intensity exercise program incorporates powwow dance steps with the sounds of contemporary and traditional powwow music in a simple, follow-along workout.
