The South African Film Festival is proud to be a community partner for an open field, directed by Teboho Edkins, screening as part of Shorts Program 1: First Crops at the DOXA Documentary Film Festival.

đź“Ť Join us in watching this powerful documentary at this Canadian premiere on Sunday, May 3rd at 3:15 PM at The Cinematheque in Vancouver.

In the wake of the 2019 Boeing 737 MAX crash that claimed 157 lives—including the filmmaker’s younger brother—Edkins and his father travel to Ethiopia in search of something tangible in their grief. What they encounter is a deeply human approach to mourning, offering a powerful reflection on loss, memory, and cultural connection.
