This Family Day, the importance of family feels especially clear.

Across British Columbia, many of us are holding our loved ones a little closer as we grieve alongside the community of Tumbler Ridge following last week’s tragedy.

Today, we’re reminded that family extends beyond our own households. It includes neighbours, communities, and people across our province who show up for one another in times of difficulty.

As we take time with those closest to us, we also stand in solidarity with every family affected, and with the entire Tumbler Ridge community.

All of BC holds space for you today. ❤️

Words cannot express the profound feeling of loss for families and friends, or our intense empathy for a community that is coming together to provide support and love to one another.

The BC Legislative Assembly will stand for a moment of silence, at noon P.T., in honour of the victims, their families and the community of Tumbler Ridge. We invite everyone to pause in reflection and remembrance.

A test of the BC Emergency Alert system is happening at 1:55pm on Wednesday, November 19th. This alert will go out on cell phones, TVs and radios across BC. While it's designed to get your attention, it will be clear that it's a test.

These tests help make sure the BC Emergency Alert system is working in case of an actual life-threatening emergency. Emergency alerts can be an important part of public safety during emergencies. They provide people with urgent, and often life-saving information. Alerts can be used during wildfires, floods, earthquakes and more.
