On Sunday, April 19, 2026 at 3:00 PM, the Royal BC Museum IMAX Theatre will host a special screening of Outer Worlds, a program of experimental IMAX films by leading Canadian artists. Admission is free, but tickets can be reserved in advance.

Outer Worlds is a series of five short experimental films curated by Janine Marchessault. The Victoria screening will be followed by a Q and A with the curator, Janine Machessault and our host, Chris Chong Chan Fui along with Outer World artists, Kelly Richardson and Leila Sujir.

Outer Worlds presents five remarkable IMAX films by:

Kelly Richardson
Leila Sujir
Lisa Jackson
Oliver Husain
Michael Snow

Each film explores expanded cinema through encounters with the non-human world: forests, lichen, water, sky, and other ecological systems. Together they offer an immersive cinematic experience that reflects on our relationship with the planet and the urgent environmental questions of our time.

Outer Worlds includes two films that were shot in the forests of Pacheedaht Territory. Pacheedaht Elder Bill Jones will be present to speak before the screening and free copies of his chapbook, Chronicles of the Forest, will be available (in limited supply).

The program will also include a rare screening of North of Superior (1971) by Graeme Ferguson, the co-inventor of IMAX and director of the first film ever shot entirely in the IMAX format.

This special presentation is part of the Outer Worlds program produced by the Public Access Collective, supported by the Canada Council for the Arts.
