With great sadness, the Harbour Authority informs our users and stakeholders of the passing of one of our directors, Dennis Budden.

Dennis was a volunteer director with the Harbour Authority for 12 years, devoting countless hours to keeping our small craft harbours safe and maintained to the high standards expected by our community.

Dennis always kept our users as his top priority—whether planning events, managing construction projects, or navigating the challenges of COVID-19. Dennis consistently advocated for carrying out work with as little disruption to our users as possible.

One of his greatest strengths was his willingness to voice his honest views rather than simply go with the flow. A true testament to his character was his steadfast refusal to get a smartphone; he insisted his flip phone worked just fine, and that if anyone needed him, they could give him a call. We will truly miss that.

Dennis was also our number one viewer on our live YouTube stream, constantly checking in on staff and monitoring harbour conditions in St. Philip’s. He spent just as much time on site checking up on ongoing projects, following up on safety inspections, chatting with staff, and, of course, landing his catch of cod.

Dennis, you've left a hole that may be too big to fill, but I'm sure "what would Dennis say?" will be said for years to come.

Fair winds and following seas, Dennis.
