THANK YOU, LENNOX ISLAND FISHERMEN!

Today’s Cash Bingo was made possible through the generosity of members of the Lennox Island fishing community who stepped forward to support this fundraising initiative.

On behalf of AWAPEI, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed. Your support helped make today’s event possible and provided an opportunity for people to come together for an afternoon of fun!

We are incredibly grateful for those who chose to give back and support the work we do within our communities. Your generosity does not go unnoticed, and we appreciate your willingness to help make events like this happen.

We also want to publicly thank Mary Sark for all her work she does for AWAPEI in helping lead and organize these fundraising efforts. Your dedication and support is beyond appreciated by the entire organization and staff, thank you. ❤️

And thank you to everyone who came out today to help us continue creating opportunities for Indigenous women, families, and community members across PEI.

🪶 Women’s Circle – Deer Hide Rattles 🪶

Join us this May for a special Women’s Circle where we’ll gather in community to create beautiful Deer Hide Rattles alongside Elder Christine Bernard.

This meaningful cultural workshop will invite participants to create with intention, care, and connection while learning the process of making traditional deer hide rattles in a welcoming women’s space.

PLEASE NOTE: Pre-registration is REQUIRED for this workshop, as deer hide materials must be soaked and prepared in advance for each participant. Because of the preparation involved, we unfortunately will not be able to accommodate drop-ins.

✨ NEW! AWAPEI Beading Circle – Starting This May ✨

We’re so excited to announce the launch of our very first AWAPEI Beading Circle! 🧡🪶🫶

Through conversations with women in our community, we heard a clear interest in having a welcoming space to gather, bead, learn, connect, and simply enjoy community together—and we listened. 💛

Beginning this May, we’ll be hosting a monthly beading circle to start, rotating locations so we can make space for women across different communities to join in. If interest grows, we’ll absolutely revisit offering them more often!

Whether you’re an experienced beader with projects already on the go, or someone who has always wanted to learn but didn’t know where to begin—you are welcome here.

🪡 Bring your own beadwork project
🪡 Start something new
🪡 Explore a technique you’ve been curious about
🪡 Connect with other women in community

Basic beading supplies will be available. If you already have a specific project in mind or there’s a particular type of beadwork you’d like to work on, please let us know ahead of time so we can do our best to accommodate supplies and planning. 💜

This is meant to be a relaxed, supportive space where creativity, conversation, and connection can happen naturally.

📩 Want to join the circle?
Please email [email protected] to join Beading Circle or let us know if there’s a specific project or beading technique you’d love to explore!

💜 Family Violence Prevention Week | Day 4 💜
Support can make all the difference.

Family violence can feel isolating, overwhelming, and difficult to talk about—but no one should have to carry hard situations alone.

Sometimes support looks like confiding in a trusted friend, family member, Elder, support worker, or community resource. Sometimes it starts with simply knowing that what you’re experiencing matters and that help is available.

Reaching out can feel intimidating, and everyone’s circumstances are different. There is no “right” timeline, no perfect words, and no expectation to have everything figured out.

What matters is knowing that support exists, and that connection, care, and community can be powerful parts of healing and safety.

Even small steps toward support matter.

If you or someone you know needs support, help is available. 💜

📍 PEI Family Violence Prevention Services: 1-855-368-5468
📍 Island Helpline (24/7): Call or text 211
📍 Emergency: 911
📍 AWAPEI is also here to help connect Indigenous women and families with culturally safe supports.
