Please feel free to post your photos!! What a great evening in Tumbler Ridge last night!
First of all, the drive into Tumbler Ridge was absolutely beautiful. I have driven that road more times than I could ever count, but there are days when you look around and are reminded that it really is one of the most beautiful drives anywhere. I stopped in to see my daughter on the trip to TR, she’s got a huge banana tree, figs, olives, oranges, passion fruit etc.
Thank you to everyone who came out to the All-Candidates Forum, both the candidates who put their names forward and everyone who showed up to listen and ask questions. We had more than 90 people join us between those attending in person and watching online, which was wonderful to see.
There were some really thoughtful questions, including a number directed to our current School Board Trustee and the other trustee candidates. Young Penny asked what i thought was one of the best questions of the night: “How would you help students?” Sometimes the simplest questions really are the most important ones.
Rob asked Council candidates about protecting our community from wildfire, something that I know is never far from the minds of people in Tumbler Ridge.
What really stood out to me, though, was how many of the questions came back to communication — how will you keep residents informed, how will you listen, and how will you actually engage with the community? I think that says a lot about what people are looking for from their elected officials. People want to know what is happening, but just as importantly, they want to know they are being heard.
And I especially loved seeing students in the room! Thank you for coming, listening and being part of the conversation. Your voices matter too.
Thank you to everyone who helped make the evening happen, to every candidate who had the courage to put their name forward, and to everyone who participated.
It was so good to be back in Tumbler Ridge and see so many familiar faces. Last night was a great reminder that local democracy works best when people show up, ask questions, listen to each other and care enough to be involved. Whatever happens on election day, I hope we keep that conversation going — because a strong community isn’t built by the people sitting around the council table alone. It’s built by all of us.
