A historic milestone for the Saliqmiut Hotel! On August 1st, we were thrilled to welcome our very first guests, Alouette and Norbert, researchers visiting all the way from Norway to study the famous local Pingo landmark.

To commemorate the special occasion, we presented them with a few Saliqmiut keepsakes. Thank you for staying with us, and happy researching!

Our local artists keep our history alive.

In our community, stories and art making go hand in hand, with every stitch, carving, and design pulling deeply from family traditions and the land.

This connection is exactly why Saliqmiut exists. By preserving these intergenerational skills, we ensure our culture thrives and our youth stay rooted in their heritage. The Tuktuuyaqtuuq Centre for Arts and Culture is being built to give our artists a dedicated space to share these powerful stories with the world. 🧡

There is nothing quite like the incredible craftsmanship of a traditional Inuvialuit parka. 🧡 White fleece meets striking delta braid detail, complete with the Saliqmiut logo proudly displayed. Pieces like this beautifully weave together our heritage, past and present.

True Arctic sovereignty isn’t just about lines on a map, it’s about the people who have lived on the land since time immemorial. 🇨🇦🌊

When we gather to plan, design, and build the Saliqmiut Centre for Arts and Culture, we aren't just creating a building. We are reinforcing the cultural continuity of the Inuvialuit people.

By preserving our language, documenting traditional knowledge, and mentoring the next generation right here in Tuktoyaktuk, Saliqmiut acts as a living anchor for the nation's northern identity.

Every meeting, every shared story, and every cultural program is an assertion of our self-determination and our enduring presence.

We have thrived on the shores of the Arctic Ocean for millennia. Our culture is built on deep observation, adaptability, and an understanding that humanity is not separate from nature, but a part of it.

Today, as the world faces unprecedented climate and ecological changes, Indigenous knowledge holds the keys to global survival. Why?

❄️ Climate Resilience: Our Elders and land users had real-time understanding, vital for navigating a changing planet.
🐋 Sustainable Living: For generations, we have practiced deep conservation, taking only what we need and ensuring the land and ocean can regenerate for the next generations.
🗣️ Intergenerational Wisdom: Traditional knowledge passed down from Elders to youth teaches perseverance, collective care, and survival through harmony, not dominance.

Through the creation of the Tuktuuyaqtuuq Centre for Arts and Culture, we aren't just building a museum to look at the past. We are building a living vessel to perpetuate a culture that the whole world can learn from.

We are still here. Our knowledge is alive. And the global community needs it now more than ever. 💙
