🌟 June is Silica Awareness Month

Silica dust is a hidden hazard on construction sites, and its impact on worker health is permanent. When crews cut, drill, or crush concrete and stone, they release microscopic dust particles. These Lungsquatters move in and settle permanently, causing irreversible damage.

This risk is preventable with the right education and controls in place.

To support your safety efforts, Construction Safety Nova Scotia OHS Advisors are delivering complimentary Silica Safety Presentations directly to your office or jobsite.

Visit lungsquatters.ca to book a free presentation for your team.

The Worker’s Compensation Board of Nova Scotia has just announced (June 10) the first rate decrease in more than 40 years. As of January 1, 2027 a rate reduction of 15% will be implemented. Workplace injuries are at historic lows in the province. Even with the deduction, Nova Scotia’s WCB rates remain the highest in the country. The NSRBA is a member of a business coalition that has lobbied for this welcome first step and encourages the WCB board to continue to get rates lowered to a national average as quickly as possible.
