What an inspiring weekend at RYLA 2026! 🌟

On May 15–16, the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) program was proudly hosted by the Rotary Club of Truro at NSCC.

This year, Rotary clubs from across District 7815 sponsored 39 enthusiastic student leaders who came together to learn, grow, and challenge themselves through leadership development activities and team-building experiences.

Using the *I Choose* leadership program developed by John Maxwell as part of the broader *I Lead – Preparing Next Generation Leaders* initiative, students explored their own leadership styles, reflected on opportunities for growth, and worked collaboratively in breakout teams throughout the event.

A huge thank you to facilitator Edgar Allain for leading such an engaging and meaningful experience, as well as to the 9 dedicated volunteers, monitors, and chaperones who helped make the weekend a success.

The energy, participation, and positivity shown by these students reminds us that the future is bright. πŸ’™πŸ’›

The Rotary Club was proud to present funding support to STEPS on Arthur in support of their incredible work in our community!

These funds come directly from our community fundraising efforts β€” including Yearbook sales, Adventure Club tickets, and other Rotary fundraisers throughout the year.

We’re also excited to continue sponsoring the annual **Rotary House Challenge Golf Tournament**, now in its 22nd year! β›³ This long-running event helps raise important funds for the capital and program needs of STEPS on Arthur β€” an organization our club has proudly supported for many years.

Thank you to everyone who supports Rotary fundraising initiatives. Your support helps us give back to amazing community organizations like STEPS on Arthur! πŸ’™πŸ’›

Rotary Week in Truro was kicked off with the 102 Highway Cleanup! 🚧

Our team gathered 156 pounds of garbage from the Robie Street /102 interchange.

They had some interesting finds! Including a "still valid" license plate (if you're looking for it, go to Access Nova Scotia) and a full deer skull!

Thanks so much to our Rotarians: πŸ“·Chester Macphee, Joanna McGowan, Roger Levesque, Lorraine Lewis, Lydia Sorflaten, and in the back row (and our newest Rotarian) Mark Matheson!

We love sharing the work that our International Rotarian partners do!
Rotary members make amazing things happen, like:

Opening schools: In Afghanistan, Rotary members opened a girls’ school to break the cycle of poverty and social imbalance.

Teaching adults to read: Rotary members in the United States partnered with ProLiteracy Detroit to recruit and train tutors after a study showed that more than half of the local adult population was functionally illiterate.

New teaching methods: The SOUNS program in South Africa, Puerto Rico and the United States teaches educators how to improve literacy by teaching children to recognize letters by sounds instead of names.

Making schools healthy: Rotarians are providing clean, fresh water to every public school in Lebanon so students can be healthier and get a better education.

Enhancing educational systems: In Kenya, Rotary clubs are working with the Global Partnership for Education and local and national governments to advance life-long learning opportunities for poor and marginalized children. Learn more.
