Register today for FORSEC's Mentorship Training Program.

This program is designed for forestry workers who want to develop their mentorship skills. Whether you work in harvesting, silviculture, forestry, mills, Christmas trees, or another area of the sector, the program will provide practical skills to help you effectively coach, support, and develop others in the workplace.

Training will be offered at three locations across Nova Scotia:
Port Hawkesbury: September 22 – November 3, 2026
Truro: October 14 – December 2, 2026
Bridgewater: October 15 – November 26, 2026

The teachers tour is back! After last year's forest fires, we were lucky to be able to send FORSEC Training Coordinator Samantha Chu out to take part in the 2026 tour.

The tour gives educators access to an inside look at Forestry that is crucial for forming connections and providing resources that allow the next generation of forestry workers an inside line to the industry after graduation.

We're always pleased to participate, doubly so after a valuable event like this has to be postponed. Thank you to everyone for coming out!

FORSEC is hosting sessions across the province to introduce forestry harvesting & trucking contractors to new tools, training, and resources designed to make your operations more efficient.

At each session, we'll share what's available, and you'll get to choose which opportunities interest you most. This includes access to efficiency and improvement training, along with tools already built and tested with a group of contractors.

Session details:
Port Hawkesbury – September 10
Bridgewater – September 16
Truro – September 17

All sessions run from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM. We'll kick things off with a light lunch and some time to network, since many of you know each other but don't often get the chance to be in the same room.

You're welcome to attend whichever session works best for your schedule, even if it's not the one closest to your home base. Just note you can only attend one session.

There's no cost to participate; your only commitment is to honour the times you sign up for and stay in touch with us along the way.

Today we kick off Day 1 of Dust Safety Week brought to you by Canadian Biomass, Canadian Forest Industries, and Pulp & Paper Canada and sponsored by Fike Corporation, Fagus GreCon, Inc., SonicAire, and CV Technology!

Our first article focuses on tips for maintaining dust and explosion mitigation equipment.

While the majority of wood products producers understand the need for dust and explosion mitigation equipment, that equipment only runs as well as it is maintained. With the long list of work that needs to be performed by maintenance staff to ensure production continues uninterrupted, this type of equipment can sometimes fall of the radar, or slips so low on the priority list that staff can delay the regular checks and/or cleanings recommended by manufacturers.

We're really happy to welcome Emma Church to the FORSEC team for a summer term as our Education Outreach Program Coordinator! Emma brings a diverse background in the non-profit sector, with extensive experience in youth programming, program coordination, and career development.

As Education Outreach Coordinator with FORSEC, Emma is excited to promote the wide range of careers available in Nova Scotia's forestry sector and build relationships with students, educators, industry partners, and communities across the province.

Fun fact about Emma: When she's not working, you'll likely find Emma on the soccer field, at the bouldering gym, or exploring the outdoors.
