Some paths are creative.

The Mi’kmaq Artist Emergence Program brings together music, culture, and wellness.

Supporting youth to:

• Develop their artistic practice
• Stay grounded in culture
• Navigate creative industries

When creativity is supported alongside identity and wellbeing, it creates space for something powerful to grow.

For others, that path is storytelling.

Through film mentorship programs, youth are gaining the tools to tell stories from their own perspectives.

Learning from industry professionals.
Building technical skills.
Sharing stories that matter to their communities.

This work is about more than film.

It’s about voice.
Representation.
And the power to tell your own story.

For some, that path is entrepreneurship.

Creating something of their own.
Building within their community.
Following their ideas and interests.

Across different programs, youth have been able to:

• Explore business and entrepreneurship
• Build skills through hands-on learning
• Connect with mentors and peers

From “business in a box” programs to regional conferences and mentorship opportunities, these experiences open doors.

Because sometimes, all it takes is the opportunity to try.

What does a good life look like?

For every young person, the answer is different.

For many Indigenous youth, it means choosing their own path.
A path grounded in culture, community, and purpose.

This is what Ta’n Telo’ltimk speaks to.
A way of life.

Across communities, we’ve supported programs that help youth explore their paths, build skills, and move forward with confidence.

Here are some of those stories.

This is what empowerment looks like.

Youth learning from their communities.

Youth stepping into leadership.

Youth supporting the next generation.

This is how communities grow stronger.

Next, we’ll share how these journeys continue through entrepreneurship, creativity, and building a path toward a good life.

Sometimes, leadership looks like stepping into the role.

Through the Abegweit Middle Management Program, youth received mentorship and training to move into leadership positions within community businesses.

And the impact is already visible.
Participants have moved into supervisor and management roles, helping lead the next phase of community growth.

Leadership is not something youth grow into someday.

It’s something they are already doing.

Leadership grows through experience.

The Community Fishing Enterprise Youth Intern Mentoring Program connects youth with real opportunities in community-owned fisheries.

Through hands-on experience, youth build:

• Career skills
• Confidence
• Relationships within their community

At the same time, communities are strengthening their future workforce.
When youth are given opportunities to learn and lead, everyone benefits.

Leadership often starts close to home.

Through food security and sovereignty initiatives, youth are learning skills that connect them to land, culture, and community.

They’re gaining:

• Knowledge of traditional practices
• Skills for future opportunities
• A deeper understanding of community needs

“Because of these programs, the youth are beginning to have ‘table talk’ at home… it’s opening up their eyes to the needs of the community.”

Leadership doesn’t always begin with a title.

Sometimes, it begins with learning, sharing, and bringing that knowledge home.
