The Southern Avalon Development Association (SADA), formerly known as the Trepassey Area Development Association, was formed in 1975 and incorporated on September 18th of the same year. The association is a community based, non-profit organization committed to social and economic development, dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for citizens of the region. This is accomplished through meanin
gful partnership with the Irish Loop Development Board, local, regional, provincial and federal governments, sharing mandates for community and social development. SADA represents the communities of the Southern Avalon (Portugal Cove South, Biscay Bay, Trepassey, St. We are comprised of six local committees, one in each of the aforementioned communities. Local committees are elected at a community local election. There are three to seven people elected to each local. The regional board is made up of directors from each local committee. Presently there are twenty-two serving on the regional Board. The Board of directors is elected annually by the membership and is accountable through the Annual General Meetings where they report on the activities and finances of the Association. The executive committee is comprised of a President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. The executive committee are signing officers for the Association and all transactions for SADA must have two (2) signatures. The Southern Avalon Development Association has its regular monthly board Meeting on the second Monday of each month. Special Board meetings are called when necessary.
