Citizen science is simply ordinary people paying attention to the nature around them — and turning that attention into valuable data that scientists, conservationists, and planners can use to protect and enhance wildlife and green spaces.

Thames Valley Environmental Records Centre hold and maintain biological records for Oxfordshire and have recently put out some information on areas that are not well recorded and need your help, full details including the full map can be found here https://www.tverc.org/recorders/help-us-fill-species-gaps

If you are new to biodiversity recording then you can submit your observations on iNaturalist and join Community Action Groups - CAG Oxfordshire project aimed at supporting every day people being able to make a difference to nature in their areas https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/community-action-groups-cag-oxfordshire

Nature in The Autumn

www.inaturalist.org/projects/community-action-groups-cag-oxfordshire/journal/137275-nature-in-the-autumn

Moving through the seasons it is fantastic to watch the project continue to grow, with 8922 observations to date, recording 1573 species, this is amazing!

Thanks to those who have been looking at other members observations, helping to identify species and confirm identifications, as well as building our community. We have maintained an impressive rate of our observations at research grade, meaning they will filter through to iRecord for verification by species experts and ultimately make their way to TVERC.

You can now review TVERC’s “Help Us Fill the Species Gaps” map to see whether your area is under and well recorded: https://tverc.org/recorders/help-us-fill-species-gaps

As the summer comes to an end, there is still plenty to see and help to build the project, please remember to let other nature loving friends and family know about this project, citizen science is built on many people contributing regardless of their level of knowledge! If you have Oxfordshire friends or family who love nature, please do encourage them to join the project!
