New Stuff Theatre

New Stuff Theatre New Stuff Theatre seeks to be Canada’s foremost presenter of new, contemporary, cutting-edge international plays while cultivating new local artistic voices.

In addition to being the widely recognized home of international theatre, New Stuff Theatre will become a home for many rising artists in Toronto. The theatre will provide them a platform to create and develop new work that will premiere to the world on our stages. The theatre will bridge the gap between artists of all performance areas, and will engage unlikely and artistically under-serviced com

munities in Toronto through innovative and dynamic education and outreach initiatives. VALUES

Embracement: We strive for more than tolerance – we open our arms and workspace to all people, and do not tolerate even the slightest bit of prejudice or oppression

Newness: We keep everyone on their toes – we encourage all company members to step out of their comfort zones and take on roles new to them

Fun: We take the work seriously, not ourselves – we bring levity to our workspace, even when dealing with heavy subject matter

Our Story

"Botticelli in the Fire" follows the life of famous Renaissance painter Sandro Botticelli in his process of painting "The Birth of Venus" leading up to the Bonfire of the Vanities in 1497. "Sunday in S***m" is a telling of the allegorical story of S***m and Gomorrah told through Lot's wife's - Edith's - perspective, a character who is unheard of in the biblical telling of the story. Botticelli in the Fire was commissioned, developed and first produced in 2015 by Canadian Stage, Toronto, ON, Canada (Matthew Jocelyn, Artistic and General Director, Su Hutchinson, Managing Director). Botticelli the Fire / Sunday in S***m is produced by permission of the Author and Marquis Literary www.mqlit.ca
