Thank you to everyone who joined us at Eastdale CI to visit Toronto’s largest rooftop school garden. 💚

It was a pleasure to show off what’s possible when students, teachers, and community partners grow, cook, and share food together.

Come join us at Sumac Community Food Centre this Wednesday August 19th, where Gamze Suher will teach us how to turn our Eastdale rooftop harvest into jars that last for months.

There will be an interactive presentation as well as a demo where you will make your own fermented vegetables.

Everyone will go home with 2 jars and a Green Thumbs tote bag!

Eastdale C.I. offers a distinctive educational environment where students, teachers, and community partners, such as Green Thumbs, collaborate to achieve more than they could individually.

As a specialized high school, Eastdale C.I. serves students with a variety of developmental needs through holistic and experiential learning. The school offers not just a unique educational experience, but hands-on experiences in horticulture and culinary arts, integrating these subjects into cross-curricular learning opportunities.

Visitors are invited to experience firsthand the largest roof top school garden in Toronto and imagine the many unique future opportunities available at the school.

This past Tuesday, the Green Thumbs Growing Kids team had the honour of attending the Toronto Centre Leadership Awards, where we were recognized for our collective work connecting children, youth, and communities with food, gardens, and environmental education.

Thank you to MPP Kristyn Wong-Tam and the Toronto Centre team for this recognition and for celebrating the many people and organizations working to strengthen our communities.
Congratulations to our fellow recipients - Friends of Allan Gardens, Doug Fisher (Cabbagetown Neighbourhood Review), Alif Ashraf (Mental Health Matters), Jamii, and Freedom City. It was inspiring to celebrate alongside so many individuals and organizations helping make Toronto Centre a healthier, greener, and more connected place.

A heartfelt thank you to Friends of Allan Gardens for hosting such a beautiful evening in one of Toronto’s most iconic green spaces, and to Daniel et Daniel Catering & Events for their wonderful hospitality.

This recognition belongs to the many people who make our work possible - our staff, educators, volunteers, partners, funders, and the school communities we have the privilege of working with every day. Thank you for helping us grow greener communities, one garden at a time. 🌱

A heartfelt thank you to the Kiwanis Club of Toronto Foundation for awarding Green Thumbs Growing Kids a $10,000 Leadership and Mentorship Grant.

Rebecca had the pleasure of representing our organization at the 2026 Cocktail Royale | Masquerade Edition, an evening dedicated to celebrating organizations working to create meaningful opportunities for children and youth in our communities.

This generous investment will help strengthen our school garden programs, where students develop leadership skills, build confidence, connect with nature, and gain hands-on experience growing food.

We are deeply grateful to the Kiwanis community for championing youth leadership and mentorship, and for believing in the impact of experiential learning. Thank you for helping us continue to grow healthier, more resilient communities—one school garden at a time.
