Assalam-O-Alaikum Dear Aligs,
My name is Shahnaz Jamali. I studied at AMU and worked as a lecturer in Moradabad for one year before moving to Ethiopia, where I taught for five years. For a better future, I later moved to Bahrain and taught there for almost five years before coming to Canada. After arriving in Canada, I completed my Bachelor of Education again from the University of Windsor. Since then, I have been working in the field of education in Pukatawagan (MB), Mississauga (ON), and Windsor. I am currently serving as a principal in an elementary school.
My hobbies include reading, painting, yoga, poetry, driving, nature, and traveling.
As a teacher, I have organized many cultural programs, various competitions, and fun fairs such as science fairs, art exhibitions, cooking competitions, and sports days. I have participated as a teacher in speech contests, sports events, cooking competitions, and contributed to school yearbooks. In Ethiopia, I organized a Children’s Day exhibition featuring portraits of Indian leaders (many of them drawn by me), as well as a cultural program supported by the Indian Embassy in Ethiopia.
I have also done significant volunteer work. I have volunteered with United Way, the Mental Health Centre, CNIB (Canadian National Institute for the Blind), Community Support Services, and the Belle River Food Bank. I have raised funds for Yemen and helped provide food and medicine. I do not count my volunteer work in India—because that is my duty.
My achievements include:
• Served as Director at the South Asian Centre, organizing cultural programs for Annual Fundraising Dinners and regularly participating in monthly meetings
• Member of ICNA Sisters, Windsor Chapter
• Member of the Windsor University Science Fair – Canada Wide
• Served as Secretary and Joint Secretary of the AMU Alumni Association of Michigan and as a member of its Executive Board
• Organized Sir Syed Day Dinners and Annual Picnics in Michigan
• Volunteering with the AMU Alumni Association of Canada since 2004, currently serving as Secretary
• A continuous member of the association since 1998
My dedication to the association is well known to many of you.
Now, I humbly request your support as I am running for the post of President.
My Agenda:
1. Strengthen and expand the association’s reach:
I aim to take our association to the next level with greater exposure and stronger community involvement.
2. Scholarships and fundraising:
I will work toward establishing scholarships for AMU students and increasing fundraising efforts, including support for Rahmani 30.
3. Establish an AMU Sisters’ Wing:
This is one of my biggest goals.
We have many talented and qualified ladies in our community whose leadership skills have not yet been fully utilized. A dedicated sisters’ wing will allow us to host workshops, webinars, and events that highlight their strengths and benefit the entire community.
4. Create specialized subcommittees for efficient functioning
• Board of Trustees: Senior members who will guide and monitor the Executive Committee.
• Executive Committee: Each member will chair a subcommittee and commit at least two hours a month for meetings and participate in all events unless facing serious circumstances.
• Fundraising Committee: To plan and execute fundraising initiatives.
• Events Planning Committee: To plan events and work with organizers.
• Events Organizing Committee: To deliver events and manage guest invitations. (We will avoid repeating the same guests unless they support the association financially.)
• Outreach Committee: To support newcomers and connect them with senior Aligs in their area or field.
• Social Media Committee: To manage the website and coordinate with newspapers and TV channels to publicize our events and achievements.
I humbly request your support and your vote.
JazakAllahu Khair,
Shahnaz Jamali
