Maloca Community Garden at York University

Maloca Community Garden at York University Located at York University's Keele campus, Maloca Community Garden is 2000 sq. ft of growing space open to all those who want to plant seeds and turn soil.

The Garden’s name is derived from the name of multi-family long houses built near the banks of the Amazon River. At the centre of each building is a communal, spiritual meeting place, so the Garden’s name reflects our group’s desire to create a sense of community at York University. Established in 1999 by Faculty of Environmental Studies students, the Garden provides individuals affiliated with Yo

rk University, and the surrounding North York community, with a unique opportunity to grow and harvest food in a welcoming, non-judgmental environment. There are plenty of opportunities to attend workshops, learn about gardening, volunteer, plant, harvest, build relationships, give back to the community, and of course…socialize! Absolutely no experience is necessary; just an enthusiasm for getting outdoors and for environmentally-friendly practices. Email us at [email protected] to get involved!
