The equality effect

The equality effect The equality effect is a non-profit, charitable organization that uses human rights law to make girls’/women’s rights real.

The equality effect uses human rights law to achieve concrete change in the lives of women and girls in Ghana, Kenya and Malawi – change that will improve the health, safety, and standard of living of women and girls. Women and girls have legal rights to equality – the challenge is often making those rights real, so that, for example, girls are safe from r**e, the spread of HIV/AIDS, and are safe

to attend school. The equality effect brings together international teams of legal experts to work collaboratively to improve the lives of women and girls, through the development of practical equality initiatives (e.g. public legal education, policy reform, and test case litigation) that will result in tangible change. The primary focus of the organization’s work relates to violence against women, the feminization of HIV/AIDS, and women’s property rights in Kenya, Ghana and Malawi. The equality effect's "160 Girls" project recently made legal history in Kenya and internationally by successfully initiating a constitutional challenge against the Kenyan state on behalf of over 160 child r**e victims between the ages of 3 to 17.
