Ramadan Kareem 🌙

As many community members fast from dawn to sunset this month, we’re sharing this quick, dietitian-informed guide on diabetes and fasting during Ramadan.

Fasting is not recommended for everyone. People who are sick or living with certain medical conditions may be exempt from fasting. Knowing your risk level can help you make a safe and informed decision, while respecting religious beliefs.

Swipe through our infographic for more details on risk levels, pre-ramadan health checks, key nutrition tips and more.

Before deciding to fast this Ramadan, check your risk level and speak with a doctor, nurse or dietitian especially if you use insulin, have complications, or have had low blood sugar before.

This past year was one of the busiest in the 25-year history of the Canadian Centre for Refugee & Immigrant Healthcare.

Since the pandemic, 8,000 refugees and vulnerable newcomers have turned to us for help, many arriving with untreated injuries, chronic illness, and emotional trauma.

In 2025, our teams supported more than 20,000 healthcare visits, helping families regain their health and begin again.

Thanks to generous supporters, no one was turned away. But as crises around the world deepen, the need for care continues to grow.

Today, critical healthcare services for refugee women and children are at risk due to government funding cutbacks. To continue this essential medical humanitarian work in Canada, we are launching an appeal to raise $1 million in the coming year.

Your support ensures our physicians, nurses, and social workers can continue delivering life-changing care, care that means survival for many.

Please donate today. The needs are urgent.
