With Amici’s 60th summer at camp underway, we’re taking a moment to reflect on the incredible impact that camp has had on Amici campers this year.

For Amici campers, camp is a place where they can feel a sense of belonging, be themselves without judgement and make friends who become like family. Thank you to XYZ Storage for supporting Amici and helping make these experiences possible for children from low-income families.

Amici campers are already looking forward to returning to their second home next summer!

This summer, as Amici celebrates 60 Summers Strong, we are especially grateful for the 50 partner camps who make our program possible.

Amici’s partner camps do more than provide camp programming for Amici campers; they help make camp accessible. All of our partner camps generously cover 50% of a camper’s fees, allowing Amici to support more children each summer.

For 60 summers, this partnership has helped create life-changing camp experiences for children in financial need across Ontario. We are deeply grateful to all our partner camps and, most importantly, to the people who make these partnerships so meaningful.

Thank you for being such an important part of the Amici story over the past 60 years!

As Amici celebrates a record-breaking 60th summer, we are grateful for the record-breaking generosity that helped make it possible.

This year, the Colonel Harland Sanders Charitable Organization made an extraordinary $250,000 gift, the largest donation in Amici’s history.

As we mark this milestone, this transformative donation is helping send more children from low-income families to camp than ever before. The impact of this gift extends beyond this summer, ensuring Amici campers can return to camp year after year for as long as they are eligible.

We are incredibly grateful to the Colonel Harland Sanders Charitable Organization. Thank you for making this summer one to remember.

Friendship is at the heart of every camp experience.

From shared cabins and campfire songs to canoe trips and late-night conversations, camp is where lifelong friendships begin. For many Amici campers, these connections become a source of confidence, belonging and support that lasts long after summer ends.

We are so grateful to our incredible community for helping more children experience the joy of friendship and the magic of camp.

In celebration of Amici’s 60th summer, we’re reflecting on the stories that have shaped Amici from the beginning.

This piece, published in the OCA Newsletter in October 1988, highlights exactly what defines Amici’s work today: a commitment to ensuring that financial barriers never stand in the way of a child’s chance to go to camp.

Sixty years later, so much about Amici has grown, but our mission remains the same, because every child deserves a summer at camp.

With Amici’s 60th summer well underway, we’re reflecting on the story that started it all: a group of young Kilcoo Camp staff who believed every child should have the opportunity to experience the friendships and belonging that they found at camp.

From one camper in the summer of 1966 to thousands of lives changed over six decades, the heart of Amici has remained the same.

To celebrate this milestone, we sat down with Paul Chamberlain as he reflects on Amici’s beginnings, the power of camp, and the lasting impact of a simple idea.

As Amici continues to celebrate its 60th summer, we wanted to recognize the incredible volunteers who are an essential part of the Amici story. To our volunteers: your time, care, and dedication help make the camp experience possible for so many children in financial need.

Eastlynn’s story reflects true full-circle impact. After witnessing the joy and growth her son experienced at camp, she now gives back as a volunteer, helping to create those same opportunities for others.

Thank you to all of the Board members, YPC members, Camp Coaches, and Canoe Heads Steering Committee members who donate their time and energy to Amici!

This summer, Etye Sarner and Ryan Loberg are embarking on the legendary Brent Run Challenge, a 162 km journey of paddling and portaging through Algonquin Park. Every kilometre they complete is in support of Amici Children’s Camp Charity!

This challenge is about more than testing physical and mental limits. It’s about giving back to a place that shaped them and helping ensure more children have the opportunity to experience the life-changing magic of camp.

Stu and Willie didn’t set out to build a legacy. Rather, they wanted to try something different to raise funds for Amici. What began as a day among friends raising $10,000 has become something much bigger.

Now, 20 years later, Canoe Heads for Kids is a powerful reflection of Amici’s mission, a 20-year expression of a 60-year commitment to creating life-changing opportunities for children.

With each participant who braves the challenge of Canoe Heads for Kids, even in torrential downpour, we are reminded that Amici’s founding belief still resonates today: camp has the power to change a child’s life.

To celebrate 20 years of Canoe Heads for Kids, we interviewed Stu and Willie to learn more about the story behind the event. You can readdthe full article at the link in our bio.

Thank you to Stu and Willie, and to every participant, sponsor, donor, and volunteer who has made 20 years of Canoe Heads for Kids possible.
