Mary Ward Centre

Mary Ward Centre The Mary Ward Centre for Education, Spirituality and Justice is a Ministry of the Loretto Sisters (IBVM Canada).

We seek to promote peace, justice and the integrity of creation through social analysis, theological/spiritual reflection and education. At the Mary Ward Centre for Education, Spirituality, and Justice, we are committed to promoting peace, justice, and the integrity of creation. Our mission is to empower agents of change who are dedicated to building a more equitable, sustainable, and compassionat

e world. Through a process of mutual accompaniment, we walk alongside those on the margins, creating transformative spaces where we learn, grow, and inspire one another. Rooted in the wisdom of Catholic Social Teaching and inspired by the Ignatian tradition and Mary Ward’s principles of freedom, justice, and sincerity, we focus on fostering authentic connections and empowerment. We offer experiences, workshops, celebrations, and events designed to nourish individuals and communities, encouraging them to take meaningful action in addressing the pressing issues of our time. By confronting global injustices and creating spaces for reflection and action, we aim to inspire a movement toward right relationships and collective healing. We collaborate with faith-based organizations, educational institutions, justice groups, and civil society to advocate for and improve the lives of all of God’s creation. Join us in this journey of transformation and social impact.

🌎The Earth is speaking. Are we listening?

Environmental issues are not only about nature — they are about people, justice, and the future we are shaping together. From plastic pollution to climate change, the impact is shared, but not equally. Vulnerable communities often carry the greatest burden.

Across Indigenous teachings and faith traditions, we are reminded: the Earth is a gift entrusted to our care, not a resource to be consumed.

This is a collective call to action. Whether you’re part of a school, community group, business, city or government, you’re invited to take part in World Environment Day 2026 by hosting an event focused on for the health of our planet.

As Mary Ward reminds us: “We are not born for ourselves alone.”

💚 Every action counts.

Do you know which sport migrant farm workers enjoy the most?

May is the month we celebrate International Workers' Day, and we'll be doing so by recognizing the migrant workers who produce our food on Canadian farms through the Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program (SWAP).

We'll also be talking about soccer, a sport they're passionate about, which they play on holidays and participate in small tournaments across Canada, and which will be a big event in Toronto because of the World Cup.

⚽🇨🇦 One of the world's most important sporting events is approaching, and Canada will host 13 matches. Events of this magnitude involve enormous risks.

In our most recent blog post, we shared key prevention guidelines and the Catholic Register article about our work in collaboration with other organizations to prevent human trafficking at events such as the World Cup.

Young people are not only learning about social issues — they are already imagining solutions.

Yesterday, 15 students from Madonna Catholic Secondary School joined us for a SHSM Sector-Partnered Experience focused on Homelessness and Housing Justice.

Together, we explored different spaces across downtown Toronto that support individuals and communities facing housing insecurity, while reflecting on the realities many people experience in our city every day.

The experience concluded with a collaborative ideation and entrepreneurship workshop, where students developed ideas connected to housing justice and community care.

These conversations matter because homelessness is not only about shelter.
It is about dignity, belonging, and systems that leave people behind.

Thank you to teacher Daniel Pupulin and all the students for walking, listening, questioning, and engaging with compassion.

One of the world's most important sporting events is approaching, and Canada will host 13 matches. Events of this magnitude involve enormous risks. To prevent human trafficking, the message from the Mary Ward Centre is to prepare your participation in the event's activities in advance, stay informed through reliable sources about them, costs, access routes, schedules, etc., plan how to enjoy the event and its activities ahead of time, and attend in a group with people you know well. These are some of our recommendations to avoid becoming a victim of human trafficking.

To prevent labour exploitation, remember that even for short-term jobs, you must receive legal compensation and have an employment contract (written or verbal) in accordance with Canadian law and ILO international standards.
