Sammy Yatim was an 18 year old boy that was shot to death on a streetcar. Sammy never had a criminal record, mental illness, or suicidal tendencies. He wasn't an aggressive youth. He was a kind hearted boy who loved children and animals. He was happy with his life and loved his family. Sammy never was aggressive not did he support violence. heart Sammy wouldn't hurt a fly. Every one who knew him knew that he was the kindest. He was never apart of a gang or anything. He just had his few good friends who he would constantly hang out with. Every one that ever met Sammy would fall in love with his personality. If you haven't heard about Sammy Yatim here's his story. Sammy Yatim was riding the street car around 12am on Saturday, July 27th, 2013. Sammy Yatim was carrying a pocket knife just because he enjoyed collecting them back at home. He brought it out of his pocket and was switching it out in his hand (similar to a Swiss Army knife that many carry). Word passed on through the street car and they called the cops. Everyone got off the streetcar whilst 22 officers attempted to get Sammy off. Sammy scared and confused by the many different things the officers had requested by him stood in the same position with his knife at hand. Never in his slightest mind did it occur to him that he would die, he thought this was a huge misunderstanding and he would get out of this. However, because of the vast judgment by the cops, lack of communication skills, lack of problem solving skills, ignorance, laziness, and misuse of power Sammy Yatim was killed. 22 officers did not have the right mind to say shut the street car closed, go up and talk to him he's not dangerous, or for goodness sake tazer him from behind as they did AFTER he was shot. Sammy was shot 9 times, 8 shots penetrating his body. In segments of 3 shots first and as seen in security footage as Sammy is convulsing for his life and out of pain, like a fish out of water the officer shots him another 6 times. He was tazered from behind after he was shot, and it seems as though he was kicked in the head as well. For what? For nothing but his innocence and the laziness of the O.P.D. Sammy had supposedly revealed himself and shown nudity as stated by ONE witness which in my opinion is false since she testified a week into our movements. It seemed to me as she wanted recognition in the public eye since her picture was also placed in the article very willingly. Sammy was not a silly child he would never reveal himself in public or be of danger to anyone else. We cannot rely on the witnesses statement until the TTC footage is released and everything is clearly seen. Knowing Sammy I know he would never reveal himself nor put someone else in danger. Sammy was killed for relentless behaviour projected by the cops. Thank you to the bystander that filmed this and posted it on YouTube right away. Without you none of this would have happened. I promise you if we didn't have a video the cops would have said Sammy "attacked" them but as shown in the video it is clear that he didn't. The O.P.D hasn't done this once or twice. This is just the one of hundreds of innocent killings. From people holding scissors, trick or treaters, homeless people, natives fighting for their reserves, and many more. This needs to stop. Sammy needs to be the last on to endure police brutality. No human has the right to decide if someone should die and when humans do begin to play this role of God it will corrupt our society. The crime of murder is the crime of murder no matter who it is, when it is, why it is. You cannot justify murder. The officer who killed Sammy (James Forcillo) was charged with 2nd degree murder but, within 3 hours was given a bail of around $500,000. He deserves jail time so please join us to fight for what's right and gain justice for Sammy. Justice for Sammy is one step closer to Justice For All.
