The St. Andrew's Society of Toronto was founded on this date in 1836. Scottish immigrants and their descendants came together to support their compatriots that had fallen on hard times.

The St. Andrew's Charitable Foundation has continued these good works by raising funds for smaller charities across the GTA. Over $1 million has been donated in the past 15 years.

We look forward to carrying on these traditions and celebrating this milestone with you all year long. See the links below to learn more about the history of the Society and Charitable Foundation.

Local historian Adam Bunch will be the featured speaker at the 2026 Spring Dinner coming up on April 10th.

His talk will focus on two Scots that played roles in Toronto's early history. Despite their shared homeland, William Lyon Mackenzie and Bishop John Strachan had deeply differing ideas on the role of government.

Tickets are on sale via the St. Andrew's Society of Toronto website. They are $90 for Society members and $95 for non-members. Sales close this Friday at 11:59pm.

Bunch is an award-winning storyteller who brings the history of Toronto and Canada to life. He's the author of The Toronto Book of the Dead and the host of the Canadiana documentary series. He is the creator of the Toronto Time Traveller newsletter and the Toronto Dreams Project. His work popularizing Canadian history has been recognized with the Governor General's History Award for Popular Media — the Pierre Berton Award.
