CONGRATULATIONS!
On behalf of the Human Rights League of the Horn of Africa ( HRLHA) founders and Board, I am profoundly pleased to extend my congratulations to Getu Saketa Roro, a co-founder and Country Representative of HRLHA Ethiopia, for being awarded the 2024 Schuman EU Human Rights Award on May 30, 2024, by the EU Delegation to Ethiopia. This recognition not only acknowledges Getu's unwavering commitment to the promotion of human rights and freedoms but also signifies his resilience in managing HRLHA's operations in Ethiopia amidst challenging circumstances.
While the impact of HRLHA's endeavors may seem modest presently, it is essential to acknowledge that Getu's receipt of this award can serve as a catalyst for us to persist in our efforts with resolute dedication to ensure accountability and justice for the severe human rights violations occurring in Ethiopia. There is ample opportunity for us to generate a significant influence and instigate meaningful transformation in addressing the current challenges faced by HRLHA.
I would like to seize this moment to urge HRLHA's members, supporters, and partners to reaffirm their commitment to supporting HRLHA's overarching mission for freedom, justice, and democracy.
Finally, but most significantly, I wish to express my gratitude to the EU Delegation to Ethiopia for their commendable initiative in recognizing the endeavors of human rights advocates and organizations dedicated to defending and advancing human rights, democracy, and freedoms in Ethiopia. I sincerely implore the esteemed Delegation to continue this noble initiative!
Thank you.
