“By developing policies that support flexible work schedules and family travel, the ICCA is addressing systemic barriers that have historically limited caregivers' participation in professional opportunities, exhibitions, and events.”

We welcome Level UP! 2024-2025 Visual Arts sector Partner: Indigenous Curatorial Collective/ Collectif des commissaires autochtones (ICCA)!

The ICCA is a national arts service organization that supports the development of Indigenous curators, artists, and cultural workers in Canada and beyond. Our mandate is to advocate for Indigenous perspectives in the arts, providing professional development opportunities, fostering collaboration, and promoting Indigenous voices in curatorial and artistic practices.

As part of the Level UP! Initiative, The ICCA is piloting their CARE Initiative, with support for two Elders to guide the creation and implementation process. This project is led by Liz Barron, a senior arts manager, an independent media arts curator, and a culture connector, located on the homeland of the Métis and Treaty One Territory. Liz is in her second year as Director of Operations with the Indigenous Curatorial Collective (ICCA). She accepted this full-time position for the opportunity to work directly with curators and artists and to be of service to Indigenous creators.

ℹ️ Balancing Act’s Level UP! Initiative supports artists, arts organizations, companies, collectives, festivals, residency programs and project-based initiatives as they explore the creation of policies and practices that support parents, caregivers and others with specialized care needs.
