On June 10, CHKC was honoured to attend reception at the Senate of Canada in recognition of National Deafblind Awareness Month.

This meaningful evening brought together community members, partners, advocates, and leaders to celebrate the strength, resilience, and contributions of individuals who are DeafBlind. It was an opportunity to raise awareness, foster connection, and highlight the importance of accessibility, inclusion, and continued advocacy.

A special thank you to Hon. Yonah Martin for hosting the event and to Senator Salma Ataullahjan, Senator Michele Audette, Senator Flordeliz Osler, Senator Mohamed-Iqbal Ravalia for co hosting, and Hon. Senator Rob Black and Senator Nancy Karetak-Lindell for their attendance. As well, a very special thank you to Hon. Vim Kochhar and the Canadian Foundation for Physically Disabled Persons for all the work you do for the DeafBlind Community.

Together, we continue to raise awareness and drive change for individuals who are DeafBlind.

On June 5th, our community came together for the CHKC Fundraising Walk, and what a success it was! From the energy at the starting line to the smiles shared along the route, the day was filled with purpose, and support for an amazing cause.

Thanks to the generosity, enthusiasm, and dedication of our walkers, volunteers, sponsors, and donors, we made a meaningful impact and raised funds to support CHKC’s programs and services. A special thanks to Councillor Amber Morley, Ward 3 Etobicoke-Lakeshore for coming out to support or event, every step taken helped us move closer to making a difference in the lives of individuals who are DeafBlind.

We’re so proud of what we accomplished together, and we can’t wait to do it again next year. Until then, let’s keep the momentum going!

Let’s get creative this June! 🧶

Communities across Canada will take part in a global tactile art project - wrapping public spaces in yarn to symbolize connection, inclusion, and awareness for people who are deafblind. Known as yarn bombing, this creative street art uses knitted and crocheted pieces to transform everyday spaces.

How are YOU showing your support? Share your photos and activities! 📸
