Lindsey's Legacy Fund shares a similar mission with us in advancing ovarian cancer care, with their work specifically focused on clear cell ovarian cancer. Our greatest similarity is honouring the lives and legacies of our loved ones Joan and Lindsey.

During Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, we encourage you to learn more about Lindsey’s story and the incredible work her family and foundation are doing to make a difference.

If you’re in the Midland, Ontario area, Lindsey's Legacy Fund is also hosting a Sound of Sting concert on September 26, with proceeds supporting Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.

September marks Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.

For the whole month of September you'll see our official JRHEF billboard on Venetian Boulevard in Point Edward, by the Bluewater Bridge.

There remains to be no universal screening method to detect ovarian cancer, making symptom awareness critical to help early detection.

Our billboard highlights the most common symptoms which is projected to have over 200,000 views by the end of the month.

Anyone with ovaries can be at risk for ovarian cancer, despite family history. If you are experiencing one or more symptom persistently, advocate for yourself and speak with your doctor.

Come check out our billboard (it looks even better in person!) and help us spread awareness this September. 🩷

And that’s a wrap on our first raffle!

Yesterday, JRHEF attended an event hosted by UHN's Princess Margaret Cancer Centre Research, to learn more about their Comprehensive Ovarian Tumours Program. Presenters Dr. Marcus Bernardini, Division Head of Gynecology Oncology at UHN and Mount Sinai Hospital, and Diane Francis shared insights on the current reality of ovarian cancer and where it is headed.

Here were some takeaways:

🔹 Ovarian cancer’s complexity makes it unlike any other cancer! This reinforces the importance of seeking care at leading institutions like Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.

🔹 High-grade serous ovarian cancer is the most common type of ovarian cancer and originates in the fallopian tubes.

🔹 Genetic testing is important, especially if you have a first-degree relative with the disease. Preventative treatments are available which may significantly reduce risk.

🔹 Data shows that over time, fewer individuals are being diagnosed with high-grade serous ovarian cancer, and those who are diagnosed are living longer.

🔹 Be a strong advocate for your health. If symptoms persist for 2+ weeks, reach out to your doctor.

While the current reality of ovarian cancer continues to present obstacles, experts at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre believe that if we remain on this trajectory, in 20 years time only a small percentage of women may die from this disease.

We are grateful to Princess Margaret Cancer Centre for the invitation and for their continued leadership in advancing ovarian cancer research and care.
