Students for Barrier-free Access

Students for Barrier-free Access SBA is disability justice organization led by disabled and mad identified students.

We advocate for the removal of barriers to accessing post-secondary education. SBA is a student run organization that advocates for equity, access and the rights of students with disabilities at U of T, through the provision of non-academic programs that raise awareness. SBA and its allies work towards eliminating physical, informational and attitudinal barriers on campus. We offer an array of wor

kshops, events and socials throughout the year, such as American Sign Language (ASL) classes, Accessible Event Planning workshop, pub nights, holiday celebrations and much more. We welcome and encourage all students, faculty and allies to get involved with our organization, participate in our events and help us promote a barrier-free society.

✨About the OISE BIPOC Thesis Group:

This is a peer-based student-run OISE-wide thesis support group specifically for Black, Indigenous, and Ph.D. students of colour (BIPOC) conducting research in decolonial, anti-colonial, anti-racist, disability justice, disability studies, Q***r and Trans studies, Indigenous studies, Black feminist thought, and related fields. This group is intended to collectively create an affirming environment where BIPOC students can collaborate, exchange ideas (ex: receive chapter feedback), and receive mutual support throughout our academic journey.

Over the summer 2024 semester, the OISE BIPOC Thesis Group ran as a pilot program, featuring monthly meetings and workshops that focused on these critical areas of research. The pilot program successfully fostered a space for BIPOC students to connect, share knowledge, and strengthen their research practices.
