In December 1943, the villages of Ulusala, Avdzhikoy, and Stylia became the site of one of the most horrific crimes committed in Crimea during World War II. In retaliation for helping partisans, German occupiers rounded up civilians, tied them together with wire, poured gasoline over them, and burned them alive.

Only those who managed to escape into the forest survived. Yet even after enduring war, the people of these villages faced another tragedy: the deportation of the Crimean Tatar people in May 1944.

Today, descendants of the survivors and victims gather at the Ulusalá memorial to honor those who were lost.

We remember the men, women, and children whose lives were taken, preserve their stories, and ensure that this tragedy is never forgotten.

Wishing all Muslims a peaceful and blessed Eid al-Adha (Kurban Bayramı).

May this sacred holiday bring peace to your hearts, strength to your families, and mercy and blessings to everyone who celebrates. May your prayers be accepted, your sacrifices rewarded, and your days filled with hope, gratitude, and compassion.

We were honoured to take part in this important conference and contribute to discussions on decolonization, freedom, and the rights of oppressed nations.

We were grateful for the opportunity to speak about Crimea, the Crimean Tatar people — the Indigenous people of Crimea — and the realities they continue to face under Russian occupation.

Thank you League of Ukrainian Canadians for creating space for dialogue, truth, and international solidarity.

On May 23, we honour the Day of Heroes — a day to remember all those who fought and continue to fight for Ukraine’s freedom and independence.

For generations, Ukrainian heroes have defended dignity, identity, and the right to live free. Today, we stand with Ukraine and honour the courage and sacrifice of its defenders.

The photo shows Lieutenant Colonel Vitaliy Plyaka, a posthumously awarded Hero of Ukraine, who was killed on March 17, 2024, in the skies over the Sumy region.

This is his helicopter, which he piloted as crew commander on March 28, 2022, during Operation “Sky,” a breakthrough mission to Azovstal. For his role in this operation, the pilot was awarded the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky, 3rd Class.

Vitaliy Plyaka is the father of our SMM manager, Yelyzaveta.

Rest in Peace, our Hero!

Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the Heroes!

Yesterday, we were honoured to take part in the 10th Anniversary Vyshyvanka Walk in Toronto and what a milestone it was!

This year was truly record-breaking: nearly 2,000 people dressed in vyshyvankas came together to set the record for the longest Vyshyvanka Walk outside Ukraine!

A heartfelt thank you to the incredible organizers and volunteers who made this day possible, and everyone who showed up, walked, and stood united!

Crimean Tatars endured deportation, exile, repression, and decades of persecution — yet they never lost who they are.

Their story is one of resilience, dignity, and the strength to preserve their identity, culture, and homeland against all odds.

In these days of May, we remember the victims, honor their memory, and continue to fight for a free Crimea and freedom for the Crimean Tatar people.
