As part of the CONTACT Photography Festival, the Women’s Art Association of Canada invites you to a special screening of Photos by Kirk, followed by a discussion with director Jamie Day Fleck.
This documentary tells the story of Kourken Hovsepian (professionally known as Kirk), an Armenian Genocide survivor who immigrated to the United States in 1920 and became a community photographer in the Bronx. From the 1920s to the 1970s, Kirk documented weddings, bar mitzvahs, confirmations, and countless celebrations, creating an intimate record of New York City’s diverse communities.

After the screening, stay for a Q&A with director Jamie Day Fleck to learn more about Kirk’s remarkable story and the legacy of his photographs.

Date: Wednesday, May 13, 2026
Doors Open: 1 PM

MOMents is making the news ✨

Today, WAAC member Paulina Constancia was featured on CBC’s q with Tom Power, where she spoke about her journey and what led to the creation of this deeply personal body of work.

MOMents is a reflective collection that honours the quiet, powerful, and often unseen labour of care—offered by mothers, grandmothers, caregivers, mentors, and nurturing figures whose presence leaves a lasting imprint on our lives.

Come experience the work in person and see it for yourself. Join the artist at her opening reception this Saturday, May 2, from 1–4 PM.

You can also take part in her Mother’s Day feature workshop, Stitched MOMents, on May 5 (link to register in bio).
