It is with heavy hearts that the Overlea Garneau Alumni Association shares the news of the passing of a pillar of our school community, Ron Thorpe. A dedicated educator whose passion for science inspired generations of students, Ron leaves behind a legacy of curiosity, kindness, and mentorship.

To honor his lifelong commitment to education, the Thorpe family has requested that memorial donations be directed to the Ron Thorpe Science Award. This long-standing award continues to provide vital financial support to deserving students pursuing their own paths in the sciences.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to this fund to ensure Ron’s legacy continues to support the next generation of scientists.

Visitation Details: Friday, January 9th: 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM & 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles (1403 Bayview Ave, East York)

Funeral Service & Reception: Saturday, January 10th: 1:00 PM St. Timothy’s Anglican Church (100 Old Orchard Grove, Toronto) A reception will follow the service at the church.

Rest in peace, Mr. Thorpe. You will be greatly missed, but your impact on our community will never be forgotten.

It is with great sadness that the Overlea/Marc Garneau Alumni Association announces the passing of long-time faculty member and former Head of Mathematics, Christopher Monk.

Mr. Monk joined the MGCI family in 1988 and left an indelible mark on the school. Whether you knew him from his calculus classes, attended one of his famous wilderness math retreats, or were part of the trips he organized to NASA, you knew he was a teacher who went above and beyond for his students.

He was a man of many talents — a lover of French and Latin, an animal lover, and a fantastic guitar player who loved surf rock.

Celebration of LifeAlumni and former colleagues are welcome to attend.
