The first North Atlantic right whale entanglement of 2025 has been confirmed in Canadian waters. The whale was seen on May 27 in the Saguenay–St. Lawrence Marine Park.
Oceana Canada is calling on Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) to require ropeless gear in high-risk areas to help prevent more of these heartbreaking incidents.
This critically endangered species cannot afford more losses.

A pair of critically endangered Mediterranean Monk Seals, caught in a tender moment of play. The Mediterranean monk seal (Monachus monachus), is the sole member of the genus Monachus, and one of two surviving species of monk seals on the planet. With an estimated 30 individuals remaining within the remote North Atlantic islands of Madeira and Las Desertas, I’ve been working on a meaningful project to shine a light on these beautiful marine mammals and the committed caretakers of this special population.
