BrAIDS for AIDS

BrAIDS for AIDS Campaign to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS Braiding is deeply rooted in the African and Caribbean culture. The beads have meaning.

BrAIDS for AIDS is an organization founded in 2008, to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS in the African Caribbean and Black Communities in Canada and internationally through hair braiding. The original campaign started with training hair dressers on HIV/AIDS information. Braiding takes a considerable time to do, which allows for our volunteers and workers to provide 101 HIV/AIDS information to clients

e also apply red, white and black beads as a symbol of HIV/AIDS and act a token appreciation for a person's donation. Red represents the blood and is the color widely associated with HIV/AIDS. Black represents the African, Caribbean and Black Communities that this campaign truly targets. White represents our allies who stand with us in this fight as we take the lead in this global epidemic. BrAIDS for AIDS has now grown into a line of synthetic hair. As part of its corporate responsibility, BrAIDS for AIDS supports organizations and programs that focus on supporting the African Caribbean and Black communities in areas such as employment, general education and in HIV/AIDS prevention, testing and intervention. Some organizations that have benefited from BrAIDS for AIDS include Black Coalition for AIDS Prevention in Toronto, Somerset West Community Health Centre in Ottawa and YMCA Trinidad and Tobago.
