🤝✨Last Friday, Deepa Mattoo, our CEO, was a featured panellist at the South Asian Heritage Month Reception at Toronto City Hall!

This event, hosted by the Council of Agencies Serving South Asians (CASSA), Councillor Neethan Shan, and United Way Greater Toronto, was a powerful celebration of South Asian heritage and a vital space for critical conversation.

Grounded in the theme “Collective Care, Collective Power, and Collective Impact,” the conversation addressed the real, pressing challenges facing South Asian communities today. We discussed the rise of hate — including Anti Sikh Hate, Islamophobia, and South Asian racism — and explored how we can build genuine cross community solidarity.

We share our gratitude to the hosts for bringing us together for this important conversation about actionable solutions rooted in care, collaboration, and a shared commitment to justice 💙

On Tuesday, June 2nd, we gathered at Maison du développement durable in Tiohtiá:ke/Montreal for the Quebec South Asian Social Justice Summit: Beyond the Mosaic.

We didn't just want to talk about surface-level multiculturalism. Together with local organizers, activists, and community members, we dove deep into the real institutional barriers facing our communities in Quebec and began mapping out a collective path forward for genuine regional advocacy and solidarity.

From an incredible roundtable discussion to a powerful keynote speech, the energy in the room made one thing clear: our communities are ready to move past the mosaic and reclaim our rights.

A massive thank you to our brilliant speakers and facilitators, to everyone who brought their vision to the tables, and to the team at Mama Khan for nourishing us so beautifully throughout the afternoon!

This is just the beginning for the South Asian Social Justice Network (SASJN) here in Quebec. Want to get involved in our upcoming working groups and regional campaigns? Contact us at [email protected]!

Alberta’s first-ever South Asian Social Justice Summit was a meaningful and powerful success.

On May 24, we welcomed 89 attendees, including community organizations, leaders, policymakers, advocates, and representatives from the Calgary Police Service, for an important conversation around justice, equity, belonging, and community wellbeing.

Together, we discussed critical issues impacting South Asian communities, including workers’ rights, racism, Islamophobia, mental health, immigration challenges, and access to justice.

One of the most powerful moments of the event was the launch of our community video:
“We Are Still Here: Real Voices, Real Stories”
featuring lived experiences and voices from across our communities.

This Summit was not about division; it was about bringing people together, creating understanding, and building stronger partnerships and solutions for the future.

Thank you to everyone who attended, supported, spoke, volunteered, and believed in this vision. This is only the beginning.
