Everyone Meet, Rithika Jeristus🌺

Rithika Jeristus began her Bharatanatyam journey at the age of 5 under the guidance of Smt. Vanitha Kugenthiran at Kalaikovil Academy of Fine Arts. With over 250 performances across Canada and the United States, she has shared her passion for Bharatanatyam on prestigious stages, including events featuring the Canadian Prime Minister, world leaders, and renowned artists.

A dedicated performer, teacher, and mentor, Rithika completed her Bharatanatyam Arangetram in 2023 and earned her Teacher Grade Graduation in 2026. She currently serves as an Assistant Teacher at Kalaikovil Academy of Fine Arts and is one of the organizers behind Kalachara’s Samaraasya production.

Through her commitment to Bharatanatyam, community service, and education, Rithika continues to inspire and preserve this beautiful artistic tradition for future generations.

Meet the Dancer: Maya Jeristus

Maya Jeristus began her Bharatanatyam journey at the age of 4. Under the guidance of Smt. Vanitha Kugenthiran at Kalaikovil Academy of Fine Arts, she has performed in over 250 productions across Canada and the United States, showcasing her talent through solo performances, dance dramas, and cultural productions.

A passionate learner, Maya continues to refine her artistry through advanced training with renowned Bharatanatyam artists. She is also committed to giving back to the community through fundraising initiatives and charitable performances supporting organizations such as SickKids Hospital, the Canadian Cancer Society, and children in need worldwide.

Maya completed her Bharatanatyam Arangetram in 2023 and was honoured with the title “Natiya Kalachara Virutcham” for her contribution to the arts. Beyond performing, she actively contributes to Kalachara’s productions and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Business and Law at the University of Waterloo.

Through her dedication, leadership, and love for Bharatanatyam, Maya continues to inspire while carrying this beautiful tradition forward.

Everyone Meet Thiyana Tharmalingam

Thiyana Tharmalingam began her Bharatanatyam journey at the age of two under her mother, Guru Smt. Chithra Tharmalingam, at Balavimala Narthanalayam. She has completed 6th-grade training through Annamalai University of Canada, is preparing for her teachers' examination, trains with the Upadhye School of Dance, and has expanded into ballet, tap, and jazz. Her major artistic milestones include performing her Salangai Pooja in Sri Lanka in 2015, successfully completing her Bharatanatya Arangetram in Sri Lanka in 2023, and organizing a solo fundraising recital in 2025 that raised $6,000 for SickKids Hospital. This past April, she officially made her debut as a guru by conducting the Nattuvangam for a student's Salangai Pooja.
Outside of dance, thiyana is fluent in English, French, and Tamil. In 2022, she was honored with the “Pat Lewis Change Maker Award” for her leadership and community contributions. This coming fall, Thiyana will be attending Toronto Metropolitan University to study Business Management, with a keen interest in pursuing law in the future.

Everyone Meet, Swetha Ravin 🌸

Swetha Ravin is a student at Kalai Aruvi Academy of Fine Arts, where she trains under the guidance of her guru, Smt. Renukadevi Vigneswaran. Having begun her dance journey at the age of three, Swetha has dedicated many years to mastering the art form and successfully completed her Bharatanatyam Arangetram in October 2024.

In addition to her passion for dance, Swetha has pursued her interest in music and completed her Sangeetha Arangetram in July 2025 under the guidance of Smt. Arudchelvi Godwin. She has also explored other musical instruments, including the veenai and piano, further enriching her appreciation for the performing arts.

Beyond the arts, Swetha recently completed her first year in the Double Degree program between the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University, where she is pursuing a bachelor’s of Computer Science and Business Administration. Through her commitment to both academics and the fine arts, she continues to strive for excellence while balancing her diverse interests and talents.

Everyone Meet, Sudhiksha Babu🌸

Sudhiksha Babu has been learning Bharathanatyam under the guidance of Smt. Vanitha Kugenthiran since the age of 5. In 2017, Sudhiksha completed her Salangai Poojai at the age of 9 and was a part of Kalaikovil Academy’s Bala Margam 4 DVD recording and release in 2020. She completed her Bharathanatyam Arangetram and the Grade 6, Teacher’s Grade examination in 2023 and is completing her Teacher’s Certification. Currently, Sudhiksha is an assistant teacher at Kalaikovil Academy of Fine Arts, where she helps mentor young Bharathanatyam dancers while continuing to grow as a performer and lifelong student of the art form. She has performed for multiple annual shows, temple programs, community charity events, maaveerar naal programs, Canada Day events and dance dramas. In 2023, she received the Youth Arts and Culture Award from Tamil Mirror for achievements in performing arts and in 2024, she received the Uukkamathu Kaividale Award of Excellence under the Academics and Performing Arts category from the York Region District School Board. Beyond dance, Sudhiksha is interested in justice, law, and social change. This year, Sudhiksha completed the first year of her undergraduate degree at McMaster University. Apart from her work at the Town of Stouffville, she volunteers in the community through local organizations such as the Stouffville Lions Club and community events. Sudhiksha is grateful for her Guru, Smt. Vanitha Kugenthiran for her unwavering support and guidance in her dance journey and for her parents' support in her endeavours. She is excited to step onto the stage and showcase her passion for the art form that has become a part of her identity.

Everyone Meet, Subiksha Manivannan 🌺

Subiksha Manivannan is a professionally trained Bharatanatyam dancer and graduate of Kalaimanram Academy of Fine Arts & Yoga under the guidance of my gurus, Smt. Nirainjana Chandru and Smt. Ishwaria Chandru-Hariharan. She completed her teaching diploma in 2021 and her Arangetram on October 5, 2025, after which she was awarded the title of Niruththa Niraignar in recognition of her artistic accomplishment. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at the University of Toronto.

She has performed in numerous productions, showcases, and competitions, including Sangath Thamizh, Nritya Pravaham, Choreo Clash, and Angiha Aradhana, while actively engaging in choreography and collaborative work across diverse artistic settings. She is currently a Bharatanatyam teacher and founder of Shri Lasiya Academy of Fine Arts, where she is committed to preserving tradition while cultivating expressive and disciplined training for her students.

In addition to her artistic practice, Subiksha is currently undertaking a summer internship in the corporate sector alongside her academic studies. She continues to refine her craft through performance, teaching, and collaborative exploration, with a commitment to artistic excellence and meaningful contribution to the Bharatanatyam community. ✨

Everyone Meet, Janisha Thurairajah ✨

At just 15 years old, Janisha Thurairajah is a true powerhouse who brilliantly embodies the harmony of intellect, leadership, and professional-level artistic excellence. A standout Grade 9 IB student at Father Michael McGivney Catholic Academy, she is already a commanding presence across multiple disciplines: she is fluent in English, French, and Tamil, and serves with distinction as a Corporal in the Royal Canadian Air Cadets. An elite athlete, she not only competes as a STAR 7 figure skater—recently placing 3rd in Ottawa—but also serves as a STAR 7 Program Assistant, proudly mentoring and developing younger skaters on the ice.
Her extraordinary artistic legacy began at the tender age of two under her mother and guru, Smt. Elilini Tharmalingam, at Suhadharma Narthanalayam. After completing her Salangai Pooja at just five years old, Janisha went on to grace over 250 stages, remarkably capturing 2nd place in Varnam and 3rd place in Keerthanam at North America’s prestigious Cleveland Thyagaraja Festival. Her breathtaking trajectory includes headlining a live-orchestra performance of “Siva Mayam” at age 12 and performing a historic “Mother and Daughter” Margam presentation at age 13 alongside her mother and guru. Last year, on August 30, 2025, she reached a monumental milestone at just 14 years old with the triumphant completion of her Arangetram. Demonstrating immense artistic maturity, she now conducts Nattuvangam for her dance school’s Salangai Pooja events. Also mastering Carnatic music and the veena, Janisha stands as an inspiring, multi-talented force who continues to elevate her community and redefine what a young leader can achieve.

Everyone Meet, Harshini Kengeswaran🌸

Harshini Kengeswaran is a student of Dr. Rajani Mathivarnan at Natiya Samarpanaa Kalai Koodam and is currently a second-year BBA student at Wilfrid Laurier University. She began her Bharatanatyam journey at the age of four and has been training for 16 years, completing her arangetram in July 2025. Since the age of 11, Harshini has been actively performing solo dance presentations, further developing her artistry and stage presence. Having successfully completed her Teacher’s Grade with Natiya Samarpanaa Kalai Koodam, she now assists in teaching Bharatanatyam to young students, sharing her knowledge and passion with the next generation of dancers. Harshini is also a Guinness World Record holder and an Asia Book of Records holder, reflecting her dedication and accomplishments in the arts.

In addition to dance, Harshini has pursued Carnatic music and violin under the guidance of Smt. Sangeetha Kokulan and Veenai under Smt. Kalyani Sutharsan, allowing her to cultivate a well-rounded foundation in the performing arts.
Dance and music have played a significant role in shaping her discipline, creativity, and passion for cultural expression. She is truly excited to showcase this work and is grateful to have collaborated alongside such talented individuals

Everyone Meet, Athusga Kiriparan 🌺

Athusga Kiriparan is an upcoming second-year student at the University of Waterloo. She began learning classical dance at the age of three and, since 2018, has continued her Bharatanatyam training at Kalai Aruvi Academy of Fine Arts under the guidance of her guru, Smt. Renukadevi Vigneswaran. On July 6, 2025, she successfully completed her arangetram. Earlier this year Athusga obtained her Teacher’s Grade Certification at the Canadian Tamil Academy and now assists her guru in teaching, helping guide the next generation of dancers.

Athusga has had the honour of background dancing for several renowned South Indian playback singers, including Mano, Harish Raghavendra, Unni Menon, Haricharan, and many others. Her passion for performance has led her to many stages, including Salangaiyum Sangeethamum, a dance competition hosted by Thalir, where she placed 2nd with a powerful Eelam-themed performance. She also competed in the Tamil Youth Society’s Aadalama dance competition in both 2023 and 2024, where her team proudly placed 1st in both years. In addition to performing, Athusga choreographs dance reels for herself and younger students at KalaiAruvi, blending traditional movement with modern creativity.
