Our Story

Mission: RFPA aims to provide Ryerson students with an unparalleled experience and competitive advantage in the field of financial planning, advising, and wealth management.

Vision: To foster the development of a financially educated, empowered, and enlightened community of students. Our Strategy RFPA is on the road to achieving our mission through the successful implementation of the Financial Advisor Skill Training (FAST) Program.

FAST is composed of seven online modules and live workshops which educate students on topics of financial advising. The program provides a competitive edge for our participants in the world of financial planning. Participants must complete a multiple-choice test to receive a certificate signed by the RFPA President and the TRSM Associate Dean/former Chair of the finance department, Dr. Allen Goss. RFPA also offers different events/workshops during the school year for Ryerson students who wish to get a deeper knowledge in financial planning. Interested? Here’s a taste of what you can hope to learn:

1. Introduction to Financial Planning Module This module provides the introduction to the financial planning world and offers students a beginner understanding of the topics included in the financial planning industry, including the CFP designation. 2. Prospecting Module Prospecting is getting potential leads to your product and ultimately closing the deal. It is very important in sales and marketing, it is the lifeblood of a sales or service company. Industry professional and PowerPoint provided. 3. Mutual Funds Module Mutual funds are a large part of financial planning, as planners must work to grow their client’s money, and oftentimes mutual funds are a viable option. An online module is provided to review the concept of mutual funds, and criteria on choosing the best. 4. Insurance Module Finance is filled with risks. Insurance dates back all the way to ancient Egypt and is undoubtedly a very important part of financial planning. Investor’s risk, property risk, client risk and much more. This module will review all of the main concepts in insurance. In addition RFPA will be hosting an Insurance event on DATE , where speakers will discuss their experiences in the industry. 5. Financial Ethics Module To become a successful and trustworthy financial advisor it is important to know and follow the 7 Principles that represent the Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibility. 6. Client Types & Their Needs Module Different clients need different things. Wealthier clients may require different investment opportunities, while older clients have other interests in mind. A financial planner must know the various types of clients to be able to coordinate to their needs and wants. 7. How to File A Tax Return For creating more accurate short-term and long-term goals for their clients, a financial planner must have an understanding on how taxes affect income and investment opportunities.
