Chantal Akerman completely changed the vibe of cinema with her minimalist style. Her most famous film, Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles (1975), was ranked #1 in the 2022 Sight & Sound critics’ poll of the Greatest Films of All Time, the first time a film directed by a woman has ever taken the top spot.

Her work explores identity, memory, and solitude, and it still shapes how filmmakers think about time and storytelling today.
