Toronto Disability Pride March

An annual event since October 2011, we speak out against ableism and oppression faced by Toronto's Disability Community.

Why we March:

To bring recognition of the struggles and value of people with disabilities as we fight against ableism and other forms of oppression. To be visible and show that we have a voice in our community and a right to be heard by taking to the streets. To celebrate and take pride in ourselves as a community of people with disabilities. The Toronto Disability Pride March aims to promote a cross-disability atmosphere, that also recognizes other forms of oppression such as race, class, gender, sexuality, etc. We believe the disability movement is strongest in a harmony of voices, not one homogeneous voice. We ask all those who plan to attend the march or workshops to respect this approach and the other people within the space.

LOCATION CHANGE: Due to road closures at Queen’s Park, the starting location at 1PM is moving to: Allan Gardens West Lawn.
Closest Wheeltrans drop off is at: 19 Horticultural Ave.

We are still marching to Grange Park as planned. We are so sorry as any change in location this late is an access nightmare, but the last minute road closures in and out of Queen’s Park have given us no choice.

Everyone on deck, help us get the word out ASAP!!

Final call-out for volunteers for September 12th! We need general volunteers to help with setup, take down, carry supplies, distribute supplies, clean up, ect. We need access volunteers to help open drinks, hold umbrellas, attach posters/signs to people’s mobility gear, sighted guides, etc. Email us at [email protected] and let us know if you want to be a general volunteer or access volunteer. From there, you’ll be given a list of available roles to choose from. Tasks are split by time and physical strength, so there are roles for everyone, whether you can only help for a couple hours, or can’t do more physical tasks, etc. Join us, and help make this year our best year yet!

Join us this Saturday, August 29th, to make our new banner a reality.

To be clear, we will always understand and respect people’s decision to kill themselves, especially given the conditions we face as disabled people. What we don’t respect is the state’s ability to kill us, while being responsible for the conditions we face. Our lives are worth fighting for; our youth are worth fighting for. We won’t let them make a profit off our slaughter.

For Us, By Us; Help us make TDPM’s 15th anniversary happen!

Join us Saturday, August 29th at Grange Park at 1pm. This year, in memory, rage, and grief; for all of those we have lost from MAiD, we’re thinking of making our new banner “Repeal MAiD track 2: no dignity in death without dignity in life.”

Rest in peace and power to every single disabled person whose light has been taken by this ableist eugenic state-funded slaughter.

Join us to celebrate our lives, and to say loudly as a community: f**k MAiD, and f**k the lack of outrage.

When it came time to expand our access again, this time with an ASL invitation, we wanted it to be someone we knew and someone who is a longtime member of TDPM’s community. AJ has been with TDPM longer than some of our organisers, and we could not be more thrilled to have her invite you to Toronto’s 15th Disability Pride March. Transcript: Hello, Toronto Disability Pride March is inviting you to the 15th anniversary of its annual disability Pride March on September 12th. We will meet at Queen's Park at 1pm. We will have speakers who will address our concerns about the lack of accessible housing, low income, poverty, and social barriers affecting us. Our speakers this year are disabled elders and founders of TDPM. After speeches, we will march together with our banners and chants. We will take to the streets of downtown Toronto and march to Grange Park. We will arrive at Grange Park around 4/5 pm, where we will get together for food and music. This is the date our community gets together, to share our voices, signs, and pride, and celebrate us being together as a community fighting systemic barriers, ableism, and audism. To gear up for the march, we also invite you to our banner-making party. This event will happen two weeks before the march, on August 29th at Grange Park. This will be a casual hangout and get-together. We will have access training, and will make banners to bring to the march. Please join us!
